Default mtnl NU plan speed not going above 25kbps

Earlier my mtnl night unlimited download speed was 60-70 kbps.
it also used to go upto 150kbps.
now it s not going above 25kbps.
s there any problem with settings???

Are you using a P2P client? If you are then MTNL restricts speeds for those (at least that's my observation). However, there are settings that let you bypass that. Let me look for them and see if I can post it.

Basically you need to make your IP address static and look change the settings on MTNL's page to allow port forwarding. I'll find it and post it ASAP.

Okay. This is a very detailed/complicated procedure. But I tried it and it worked.

First ensure that your connection is not firewalled (or at least that your P2P client is in the "exclusions" list in the firewall).

MTNL issues dynamic IP addresses i.e. they change every time you log on to the net. So first, we need to make it static. Follow this guide...
PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall

Next, find out your Modem model # (it's usually at the bottom). Mine was UT300R2U. Select it from this list...
PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall

You'll see a list of programs. Click the one for which you want to set up the port forwarding. Just follow the step by step procedure. And you're done!

ONE IMPORTANT THING: The last step has to be done EVERY time you connect to the net i.e the step where you go to MTNL's page (you'll know which after you're through with the guide).

This worked for me. I get good speeds i.e. 60 -100+ kbps every night. Let me know if you encounter any difficulties here.

The last step i.e where you go to the MTNL page by typing in 198.X.X.X or whatever IP address and then add the port. This you must do everytime you connect to the net.

Uh... not really. It will just improve downloads throough P2P from a pathetic 20-30kbps to roughly 60+ kbps.

My friends, the site that you ppl are referring to, is actually your router's configuration panel. When you enter http://192.168.1.1 in your browser window you'r actually logging in to your router's firmware for accessing its settings.

I'm also using UT300R2U, and Siddy's reffered site does show an option to configure this router. Just use your browser's find utility to search for this router on first page and then try to access your preferred P2P client's settings.

If you can't find it, then do this:

    1. Use your browser to visit http://192.168.1.1 and enter 'admin' as user id and 'admin' as password (without quotes).

    2. Click on the 'Advanced' button at the top bar and then 'Vertual Server' button on the left.

    3. If you do not find any entry in the 'Virtual Server List' section or you cannot find any such list then only use the text fields to enter your IP details. B'cos in many cases your P2P client will automatically set the port forwarding if you run it's network settings wizard. In my case, uTorrent set all these stuff for me. This screen will list all such ports in 'Virtual Server List' section if it has been done laready for you, and If is has not, then follow these instructions:

    - Enter your static IP address in the 'Private IP' field.
    - Leave the protocol field set to 'ANY'
    - Open your P2P clients freferences box and find out the port that it is using and enter the same port number in 'Local Port' field
    - Enter the same port number in the first box of 'Destination Port From' field and leave the scond one blank
    - Select Single Port from the list box next to the second text field which you left blank

    Your are done! Enjoy!

Did you try finding 'Virtual Server' option? What are other options in the top left drop down list where it shows 'Auto'?

I have a 256 Kbps connection with TriB 590NU plan. Sometimes my bittorent download speed reaches around 200 KBps. Yes you heared it right, it is kiloBytes :-) Did you know that when working on WinXP SP2, your machine cannot make more than 10 parallel TCP/IP connection per sec? Microsoft had applied this limit to ensure minimum damage caused by any virus.

You need to patch TCPIP.SYS file located in your system32 folder to push this limit to some greater number so that you can achieve the best results.

I think that step is included in the guide. Anyway, yea -- you are supposed to do that... my speed is normally 100-150 these days.
