Question MTNL browsing problem dl impossible

My plan is 1Mbps unlimited am using mtnl provided modem -sterlite sam300ax.
    I am in navi mumbai.
    Code:
                      Downstream Upstream
    SNR margin 24.2 29.0 db
    Line Attenuation 11.6 11.9 db
I cannot browse without having to refresh the same page about 4-5 times and downloading is impossible. The connection is very intermittent and lasts for a second before i have to refresh.I have detected high packet loss and high network latency.
I called 1504 MTNL customer care but it was useless as they ask to ping the router,disable/enable network connection, restart router, etc. in a very stereotypical way.:And then she tells me that the connection is perfectly alright and it is a problem with some sites but i am facing problem on all sites.(I am facing this problem since Feb.14.I was told the next day that there was some server problem on Feb.14.
Another way to explain my problem-I open IE and the home page does not load without refreshing again and again.
Moreover, I cannot do a simple speedtest(tried speedtest.net) let alone download anything. The speedtest cannot complete because the connection is lost during the speedtest.
My connection was perfectly alright before Feb.14.Another user (navneet) is also experiencing somewhat similar problem.
What DNS server should i be using.Tried google and opendns but still cannot download at all or browse properly.Very very FRUSTRATING
    Mtnl users please help.

    Please check this link.
    http://mtnldelhi.in/services/con_s.doc
Try selected connection to LAN1 and LAn4.
( Do not use LAN2 and LAN3 for BB as per MTNL link above )

Also in mod mode Uncheck Box Adsl2 +
    select GDMT> enable bitswap.

    feedback.

I am using LAN 1 and not LAN 2&3.The link is to "MTNL Delhi" site but since I am in mumbai shouldn't I go to "MTNL Mumbai".

Also in mod mode Uncheck Box Adsl2 +
    select GDMT> enable bitswap.
Do you mean under ADSL mode(Also in mod mode).
What is GDMT?I want to know what I am changing.AFAIK g.dmt is an older dsl technology.According to the modem config. file link which you posted ADSL mode must be set to ADSL2+.
Where is the enable bitswap option.I can only see GDMT option. Please explain.

    @jamie
My connection was perfectly alright before Feb.14
    Try a System Restore.
No changes needed in modem. Ignore link posted.

May be MTNL Mumbai is supplying another different model of Sterlite SAM 300ax modem.

    Await feedback from MTNL users.

Is it a DNS problem? What are the best current MTNL DNS servers for Mumbai.
    I am using 59.185.0.23 & 59.185.0.50.

I too face the same problem, I stay in mumbai as well ,the only difference is I get normal download speed but while browsing the net I have to refresh the page 2-3 times that too after changing the default dns address. The default dns address given to me by mtnl was making things worse as I was having the same issues that jamie is facing currently, so I changed my dns address to 8.8.8.8, 59.185.3.12, 59.185.0.50 in that order. I called 1504 customer care service, the guy at other end asked me to switch off/on my modem, even then the problem persisted i.e web pages taking too long to load. When I told him that he just hung up on me. I booked my complaint on 198 toll-free number, lets see. So, my suggestion is try changing your dns server addresses and see If things work out, If not book your complaint on the number given above.

BTW I'm using 512 kbps UL pack.

Checked/changed the MTU value ? suggested 1492 or lower.

    Mention details of your modem/model/number.
or post screen shot of connection status.

Hi, glavinstone.I have tried changing the DNS servers to google public dns and opendns.I am currently using google DNS servers 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4 as I post this reply.I want to know is there a reason why u DNS servers in that order i.e.8.8.8.8(one google dns),59.185.3.12 & 59.185.0.50(2 MTNL)?

Amaaayzing ha, how they hung up on you.I experienced the same thing.First, they tell me to do 1234 steps and when I a tell them my problem is not solved they just hang up on me.WTF?

When I book complaint on 198 lineman calls back the next day and asks me if my landline telephone is working.I keep telling him I have given broadband complaint and not landline complain.

Anyways changed DNS but problem remains.

Modem MTU value always set to 1492.
    MTNL provided modem Sterlite SAM300AX.
    Firmware Version : 2.11.38.0(UE0.C2)3.9.9.5
I have never installed any drivers i.e.usb drivers for this modem as i have always just plugged ethernet cable into lan port and not usb connection of modem.

    1. Reset the modem and configure again.

    2. Disable Firewall and Antivirus and check.

    3. Try Opera Turbo and see.

    4. Check using a proxy whether it is opening or not.

    5. Install Hot spot shield on your PC and try.

I am from Navi Mumbai and I am facing the same problem. I guess it has something to do with mtnl's server and not our modems. Can anyone confirm this by contacting mtnl office?

I am posting this message with ADSL mode set to G.DMT and ADSL type set to Annex A.Still facing the same problem.
My problem is that pages do not load, sometimes incomplete pages are loaded and I have to refresh multiple times, after clicking refresh each time I have to wait for a long time for each refresh.sometimes pics and some text are not loaded. And downloads,OMFG,I tried downloading a 2MB file and download stopped at 163KB after going @ of 5kB/sec.
My point is there is something seriously wrong with my MTNL broadband connection & I am getting really really frustrated.Maybe I should just wait a little more or maybe I should just change my ISP.
Any other suggestion to solve/identify the cause of this problem?

Look above people, atleast I am not the only one facing this problem.I registered complaint on 198.This is what happened today after that:-
    1. Lineman calls & wants to know whether my landline is working & I am like "who said" my landline is not working.(This happens whenever I give internet complaint &not the first time)
    2. Call from MTNL lady asks if my landline is working.I feel like pulling my hair out after hearing this.Again I reiterate, internet is the problem NOT TELEPHONE.She tells okay okay and nothing else.I ask her when the problem will be solved & she replies she doesn't know.
    3. Call from MTNL office, firstly he tells me that the problem is with my pc.(Typical MTNL first line)But Einstein doesnt know I have more than 1 PC.So I tell him that I have tried it on different PCs.To that, he replies acha acha he will see i.e.look into it.
And as I write this maybe he is still looking into it, maybe he will keep looking into for god knows how many days.
Hell, I can write a book after this & call it "The adventures of MTNL"

SCUBA is also facing same problem.Question is will the problem be solved before/after I change my ISP!!!

Ridiculous thing is MTNL speed test shows 2.33 mbps downstream, however its nigh impossible to download anything or surf right now. 8 kbps download speed is not even funny bro.

ps- Speed test made me believe there is nothing wrong with my pc or modem. Since everything is good till ISP's mainframe.

Try chrome browser. The order of dns server (my 1st post) was recommended by namebench software. It scans for the fastest DNS servers available for your computer to use. Today the linesman came to my house checked my phone line and said everything seems okay. When I said problem is with broadband, he just stood by my PC and asked me to type some urls. Today pages were taking even longer to load than yesterday. He simply asked me to call customer care number as it was beyond his knowledge. I again dialed 1504, and same routine of switch on/off your modem and some more **** followed. Still the problem did not get resolved. As I had taken off from my work, I reinstalled my Os. But still no luck.

It seems there is some problem with their servers and the customer care executives have no clue about it. We as customers have no choice but to wait till they rectify this problem or change our ISP as jamie suggests

Hi, Scuba my connection is back to normal.....finally.I got a call from MTNL exchange today morning and he asked me if my net was working.I checked & it was.Last night I had reset all the changes I had made to fix my net connection.Since I didn't change anything after that & my internet connection started working automatically, it means the fault was not at my end but at MTNL end.
The sad part is that I was helpless until they fixed it as I tried every known tweak/fix that I knew of to fix the problem. My point is they(MTNL) didn't admit that their was something wrong at their end.It is kinda like in law-innocent until proven guilty. If there is something wrong at their end they should be upfront about it & not conveniently establish thet the fault is with the customers PC(pot calling the kettle black).

Whenever someone says MTNL speed test, I get filled with rage.Or any other ISP provided speedtest for that matter.
This is what I recommend, go to speedtest.net and test speed with Mumbai servers or any other servers if u want.I found this site to be very accurate among the many available. It also has a ping test for latency checks.

OMFG, why did u reinstall the OS.That is one of the last things u should do rather "not do".If u felt that there was something wrong with your PC u should have looked for networking problems.
I know about namebench but that software hasnt been updated in a long long time & it may/maynotbe updated in future.I had tried it and showed google as the fastest for me but changing DNS didn't solve my problem.Anyways, like I said to scuba my broadband connection is alright now.
As it turns out, one has to pick up the phone register a complaint & pray to God that they fix it.

Thank u essbebe(repped) & everyone else for all their help.
    Peace out!!!

Oh well, yeah my connection is back to normal too, except I am getting stupidly high pings with online games, totally ruining my experience.

On the other note speedtest.net is decent but I'd still recommend mtnl's speed test sin your connection to your isp is all that matters. Servers recommended by speedtest.net might be lousy at times and might give wrong reading of speed.
