Default MTNL Changed Modem User & Pass :(

Apparently MTNL Changed Modem User & Pass

    before it used to be

    username : admin
    password : admin

Now I can't access using that...

since I'm pretty much sure they must be using the username & password
    Common for all

does any1 in MUMBAI know what the new one is ?

    Thanks !

    see this link also :
    http://www.maharashtra.bsnl.co.in/ssa/nashik/wa3002.htm

    Try
    admin PW admin ( default)
user PW : password ( default)
    support PW password.
(Airtel modems usually ID admin PW password )

    mention your modem/model/make.
    BSNL uses sometimes
    ID: multiplay
    PW: password.

    Sterlite SAM300 AX

called MTNL 1504 , they claim even they are not aware
    who changed it

which is very weird since I am the only one using it
& I do have proper network security.

    (a) Try leaving the PW box blank ( No entry )

    (b) You can RESET the modem/router to factory settings.
    If you want modem/router links,
see links in Post No 2 before resetting.

    (c) What settings you want to change in the router ?

Hello iluvnorp, I am also using the same modem i.e.sterlite sam300ax & only after reading your post did I realize that I can no longer log into my modem.Funny thing is last time I logged into my modem the default password was working & now its not.And since I didn't change the password the last time i logged in that leaves only 1 possibility.
Ahem....I am looking at you MTNL.
What do you mean proper network security?AFAIK rather I am using the same model and it is not a wireless one, so it will always be secure unless someone makes a physical connection i.e. wired connection to it.
Lastly, whenever u call on MTNL 1504 u are very likely to get some BS reply. That's just the way it is.U are better of calling MTNL exchange.
As for me it does not matter at the moment since I am getting proper internet connectivity right now. However, when I need to login to check my settings when my connection is not working in future, then I will definitely call MTNL exchange & "let them have it"(interpreted as flying verbal punches)

    Try this:
    Check your present IP:
What Is My IP Address? Lookup IP, Hide IP, Change IP, Trace IP and more...
    say EXAMPLE: 117.12.23.34
    retype it in address bar.
Do you get a window ?
try usual Id and PW you used.
    or
    the modem menu pages ?
( My modem Beetel110BXI opens No ID/PW needed ) feedback.

I already know my modem ip 192.168.1.1

as I mentioned before, it's the username & password !

the net is working fine, but I'm paranoid about not being able to view my modem settings, etc

thinking of resetting it...but no idea how shitty the settings will be then. . .

do we have a settings page for Sterlite SAM300-AX here ?

    EDIT ::

    @essbebe

saw the link for the settings u posted above, thanks !

still wondering to reset or not . . .

will probably do it on Monday, such that should anything go wrong, I can get it exchanged that day itself...

no idea if they will be working tomorrow (Sat) , they are already dead lazy on weekdays, so not gonna be taking a chance with weekend, even if the exchange is open

    can anyone please tell me,

in what format & default name , does the backup get stored as ?

I'm pretty sure I had taken a backup some months back,

but no idea if it was in ROM format or in XML format,

also don't know the default name...

so once I get that, resetting it would be a breeze

found my dynamic IP , it asked me for user & pass .... default didn't work :/

    trying brutus now ,

I hope MTNL has kept the user as admin,

else the cracking could take months !

could you access my modem menu ?
In my computer, WINDOW did not appear .
I had no need to enter ID and PW
    ( both in IE8 and FireFox 3.6.14)
    Device info page opens.

.... once I get that, resetting it would be a breeze
How will you access the modem menu page , where you have to enter the Backup file details ? Can be done after Reset to factory defaults. which you can do now itself !

When you RESET the modem to factory defaults,
If you try "Dialer" mode you may get connected to Internet.
( In computer window use MTNLuser ID & PW )

and concern is, if after resetting
you /don't/cannot access Modem menu pages.
    with admin admin

How do you connect now to Internet ?
    .

For your sake , I backed up my modem settings !
user/s having "onetrack" mind do not respond/try/reply
    to suggestions.

    (A)
If you succeed in locating your Backup file from your Harddisk,
enlighten me, how you will incorporate it in the modem!!!!
    I have no idea.

    (B)
    You can try/type
    192.168.1.1/backupsettings.conf
    for a fresh backup.

The backup file is in ROM format.Look at the attached image.
The default filename could be anything or did u change the default filename when u saved the backup.Try searching for all ROM files only on your HDD.

OK, this is what I recommend but before that can u tell me why u need to access the modem settings page. What specific setting do u want to change?I mean if it is not broke, why fix it?

Secondly, do you really have the backup file saved or are u just guessing. Don't think that u have it, search for it before resetting the modem or u may not get any internet connectivity at all after resetting the modem. So, u either have it or u don't.Which one is it?
Remember bro, better safe than sorry

If you find my posts helpful, rep me(add reputation) & if not, then don't.
    Anyways, glad to help.

What is the address you get when you select BACKUP ?
for Beetel I had given the address, as an example.

Sorry. My mistake. I assumed you accessed the modem menu and posted the BackUp menu page. From Post No 17.
http://www.indiabroadband.net/mtnl-b...user-pass.html (MTNL Changed Modem User & Pass :()
Appears you posted the page from user manual/or from other source...
I did not specifically ask you to use the address for your modem.
    Posted only as an EXAMPLE>

    2. Did you try the application given in Post No.10 ?

I told this above already !

    1st ... RESET since I don't know the pass/id

2nd ... Use the backed up settings which I already have or that I think I have, and get the settings restored !

    TA DA !

seems like u didn't understand what I was trying to say above, again & again...

    -----------------------------

    @ jamie

    I have this file >> rom-0

    there is no file extension,

I'm assuming this is the one ...

wanna reset it cause I am paranoid & incase I'd ever want to add more port forwarding conditions...

if it fails, I'll simply take it to the MTNL exchange

    Thanks ! ...Cheers !

So you want access mainly for port forwarding.Ultimately, the decision is upto you.
Are u sure that it is the same file that u backed up?
If there is no file extension visible, do this --->
Open Windows Explorer, go to folder options->view & uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types".

    @anant
    STERLITE SAM AX300
    Interesting problem here :
[USER forgot the USERID/ and Password for access to the modem
    All possible combinations tried.
    Now Only OPTION RESET.

    SNAG/RISK:
whether the ID and PW will be admin and admin ?
User feels he can RESET and use BACKUP file .

    Possibility One :

    RESET modem to factory settings.
access menu pages with admin admin as usual.
Do settings fresh , or use BACKUP file if any.

    Possibility two:
admin admin ( or with any other set)
    .No modem access .
Existing connection also may be lost !
    Dialup Method MAY work !

    Possible easy solution :
Take the modem in WORKING condition to MTNL ,
and say "to set Dialer Mode or PPP/PPPoE mode
unable to access modem menu pages".

Let MTNL RESET the modem !!!!

Rep points 21 points +++ from me pending for different approach and result..

For file extension identification, u could try one more thing.
Use GUI version of "Trid file identifier".
I guess it checks the file type against a database.

Good luck & happy ......should I say happy resetting. However, as anant/essbebe said, taking the modem to MTNL & asking them to reset it sounds like a much safer bet.
