Exclamation Portforward Problem [complicated] [tried everything]

    hey guys

I am a MTNL Broadband User in Mumbai.
I use the DLink DSL 502T modem.

Since a long time, I am unable to port-forward.
I have followed everything perfectly at portforward.com for my modem but the ports are still not open.

The problem is , when my modem is configured in pppoe mode i can not open the default gateway [192.168.1.1] I don't know why. I have had a long chat for hours with DLink and the only solution which they could come up to was to use bridge mode and somehow I managed to switch to bridge mode with their assistance

I started using bridge mode, in which ports are supposed to be open by default and there is no need of forwarding manually. However, when I check the ports are still not forwarded [i use portforward.com's checker]. I contacted DLink again and they said they have no idea how this is even possible and told me to contact MTNL. When contacted MTNL, they said that it is a modem problem not thiers' [at first, the mtnl customer support guy didn't even know what a port is :P]

This is a very strange problem.

I will be glad if anyone can help.

ALSO , one more question - I am thinking of buying a new modem to solve all this mess , so please suggest me a good new modem of any company in which ports are very easy to open

Did u upgraded your firmware recently it may cause problems.

    if not,

See this guide for specifically your case...

If not helpful come back here.

You cant access your router page

    Then go to http://www.ip-adress.com/
Copy ur dynamic ip from there
    paste on browser
    give UserID psswrd both admin

Reset the modem while it is ON and reconfigure it. Check if there is any change. No harm in trying, worked for someone else.

Don't believe the port checker. Do you see a green tick at the bottom of utorrent ? What is the speed you get on torrents ? (Also mention the promised speed of your plan).

It will be wise to get a good modem from MTNL and ask them to port forward it while installation. As you have already seen, even if there is no fault on our side, a 3 rd party modem is blamed and no support is given.

My current firmware version is Firmware Version : V2.00B01T01.ML.20050530

I am not sure if its the latest.

Also, the link you gave me - yes, i tried it already , but it doesn't speak of anything regarding how to update fimware.

Can you explain what do you mean by reset exactly ? and no, its a cross not a green tick.

PLEASE recommend me a good modem to buy

ALSO , i was wondering if this modem is upnp enabled, is it ?

There is a reset switch somewhere in back of ur modem probably.
Press n hold it for 15 seconds.

    U tried 192.168.1.1

    If it doesn't hurt try

Change your ip adress to 192.168.1.3
    Then restart network service.

Check the bottom of your modem. Alongside the ventilation holes, there will be a slightly bigger hole. You need to use a pen refill, insert it in the hole and press hold for say 30 seconds (please note that the modem should be online while you try this). Once reset, type 192.168.1.1 in your browser, log in to your modem and configure it again.

If not confident, try any store which sells ADSL modems and ask them to help. Or check with D Link customer care and seek help.

Still to mention : Your plan's promised speed and the speed you get on torrents , direct links from sites like Microsoft.

As stated in my original post, DLink didn't help at all.

My normal download speed is around 40kbps [as promised by mtnl]. I don't see how it affects port forwarding.

Will try reseting it since you are saying it, but i have tried it already a few times, didn't help at all.

router configuration page can be accessed only from 192.168.1.1

Do you have random port on in utorrent?

    After restarting network service

    run ping 192.168.1.1 in cmd
    See what happens.

How much speed you get on torrents ? May be you are using a file with lower seed to peer ratio. Try one with enough seeds and check. If you are getting 40 KBps which is your plan's advertised speed, we can settle on port forwarding.

Disable Firewall and antivirus and check. At times, they block the connections. Which firewall, antivirus do you use ? Try one from Comodo or Zone alarm. Both are free and good enough for a domestic user. If you are using Windows firewall, then add an exception.

Does my modem even support upnp ?

Anyways , I reset my modem, applied new rules in virtual server and did all settings once again [this time in pppoe]

When I said i can not access default gateway , this is what I meant :-
I can access 192.168.1.1 ONLY when i start my modem, once I start using the internet connection [like surfing or updating my AV etc...] i cant access 192.168.1.1 than.
Even after resetting, I face the above problem.

I use ESET SMART SECURITY and am pretty sure all firewalls are disabled.

Now, should I try bridged mode once again since pppoe didn't work even after resetting ?

Copy ur dynamic ip from there
    paste on browser
    give UserID psswrd both admin

In the TCP/IP properties of your connection, make changes as shown in the screen shot.

If you don't mind, what is the speed on torrents for well seeded torrents ?

    at dilip -
I get what you are trying to make me do but my IP is already static and i already have those settings , just with a different DNS

    @ axel

What do you mean ?? I never heard or read of 10.1.1.1 anywhere.
Also I can not access my IP like that from my browser. I tried.

Guys, am pretty sure the problem can't be solved. I have tried everything possible with the DLink customer care.

My modem is 5-6 years old and I think its time I get a new one.
Can I please get some recommendations on which modem to buy and which will be easy to open ports ? [am thinking of buying a DLink modem since I have heard its pretty good even now]
