Thread: Mumbai Server Congestion since 2nd April 2011

hey,

I'm on 752 kbps ... Unlimited plan...


while I get proper speed on torrents ... 70~80 kB/s


for some odd reason since 2nd April, I'm unable to get more than 20 kB/s

on downloads via megaupload / filesonic / etc.. basically on browser downloads...

( I use Jdownloader for this)


Speedtest also shows only 0.3 Mbps :| ... this keeps fluctuating from 0.27 to 0.44 ish...



Torrents are known to literally suck the speed out of the net ...

so I've concluded it must be 'cause of Server Congestion... maybe their servers have got overloaded or their contention ratio has got messed up...

the Broadband manager / supervisor head, of the MTNL Exchange in my Area...also said the problem must be in the MAIN servers in Prabhadevi...

called 1504 ...she gave me the Prabhadevi no. but nobody picks up !!! :|


another thing supporting my logic is that, the MTNL Triband speedtest, shows proper speed...


anybody else here having the same issue ... slow speed on browser downloads, but proper speed on torrents ?

I tii have the same issue since the 2nd of April when MTNL started to give out MB on Sundays...
I use the Dialer mode & can connect to the Internet @ 100Mbps (which shows in my Lan Icon) but cant browse the net...
Torrent too shows speeds of only 3kbps...
Should I keep it ON for abot 30 minutes, the net starts working great...
The problem is that its starts disconnecting again for some reason & then takes hell of a time to connect again...
Tried a diff pc & same Issues...
So thinking to try a diff modem this weekend...

Also, once I connect via the dialer mode, I can ping to google.com & get a +ve reply, but damm...The Website fails to open up...

Any ideas...!!!!

Sunday has started & we are back to crappy speeds.
It appears to be a deliberate ploy MTNL & bcoz it is Sunday u cant get a response from MTNL exchange & therefore it stings even more.This is the 3rd Sunday it has happened & counting.Last Monday I got the lame excuse that it was bcoz everyone is at home on Sundays & i.e. why it happened.
Other ISPs(Reliance,Tata) r also providing internet connectivity on Sundays.How come their networks r not congested on Sundays.I have used other ISPs in the past but I never faced this problem, What is shocking is the consistency with which it happens.
