BSNL Employee Union against unbundling last mile connections
It does not come as a surprise to anyone. The employee union of the BSNL has opposed the government’s proposal of unbundling the last mile copper cables of BSNL and MTNL to private players. They have even threatened to take ‘direct action’ against the move if it is implemented. So, they cannot provide us decent service and if government wants the investment to be used properly by private players, they won’t let that happen as well!
The employee union said in a released statement that the unbundling of the last mile cable to private companies would cause much harm to the public sector units. They claim that such a step would lead to a situation where private players would end up making huge profits at the expense of government’s resources by paying little in rentals.
The worker’s union also called upon the telecom workers to start campaigning against the government’s proposals. They are even organizing a daylong dharna on November 18 as per the statement released by the organization. They advised the government to think twice before taking any step in this direction.
BSNL and MTNL have launched their own broadband connectivity in the last one year and have already covered around 200 cities. However, lack of customer support and competition has resulted in a situation where the prices remain high for unlimited data transfer based internet connections.
