Default MTNL Triband in Bandra W, Mumbai (Analog exchange?)

    Hi,

I had applied for a MTNL phone connection to use the Triband internet service. The phone has been installed today and the wifi modem will come in a day or so.

My new tel number starts with 2645xxxx, and I have been told by other users in the area that the 2645 exchange is an old analog exchange and it will offer slower internet speeds. Their advice is to change the number to a digital exchange.

The MTNL website however says ALL their Mumbai exchanges are digital since 2002!

Will appreciate any useful info, specially from users on MTNL's 2645 exchange.

Even if your PHONE does not work (or you dont connect one ) Internet will work and connects to different eqpt ( Data server ). line is common to both Phone and broadband.
    Phone ; TEST: TONE/PULSE switch. ( if available )

Thanks essbebe, for your useful reply. Just checked the MTNL-provided phone instrument, it does not have a pulse/tone switch.

While I'm sure the internet would work on both type of exchanges, my question is really about the speed of internet. Would the type of telephone exchange (analog or digital) make a difference to the download speeds?

Also, If the speeds are disappointing, does MTNL allow shifting to a new number? I have used MTNL triband 999 plan for last 3 years from the Khar exchange (2646xxxx) and have been very happy with the speeds, support and negligible downtimes.

I finally got the wifi modem from Mtnl connected on the 2645 bandra exchange and am getting approx 120 kbps download speed on torrents. My plan is 999 unlimited promising 1.3 mbps speed.

Is that a decent speed for the plan. Hope other mtnl mumbai triband users can help me to know.

1.3 Mbps ( seems Odd )160 KB/sec a One MB file downloaded in approx 6 to 8 seconds (*conditions apply )
Test your speed here. ( twice )
My Broadband Speed - Broadband Speed Tester
    Example Mine now ;

    Copy/paste link here.
120 kbps download speed .......... POOR.
    120KB/sec or 120kB seems OK ( But not 120kbps or 120 Kbps )

    Also test here:
