The distance in kilometre means the length of the line they will pull to your premises so for example lets say your place is 5 Kilometres (length of cable needed) from the exchange then your annual tariff will be Rs 17016 for a 2mbps connection and so on.
I would suggest you call Mtnl and get first hand info from them.

Have you looked at Sify's wireless connection directly from sify where they will set up a small tower on top of you premises and then charge you an installation fee and then monthly charges according to the plan you choose. Almost every ISP provides leased lines and it would be worth doing some research before spending so much money. Give Tulip IT a call as they are mainly into this business and their leased lines cost a lot less then others and it will be a wireless connection so lesser chances of downtime I guess.

It says in effect from 2005 so rates might have changed recently and sarkari websites in my opinion are not updated that regularly.

    Hi Admin,
    Thanks for replying.
The area in which i am looking for connection is vill. Bharthal Dwarka Sec-26 Delhi, this area is totally deserted and the only isp network available in area is MTNL ( i called one local ISP from my own area to check feasibility over there) he said only mtnl internet network is available in area and that is a bigtime problem.
I will contact SIfy and Tulip IT now, hope they have any solution.
    Regards
    Vicky

    Dear Admin,
I putup at Janakpuri C1 but originally I am from Vill. Bharthal and I want to distribute broadband connection locally (wired through lan ) in my area.
I have tried calling local ISP of my C1 to that area but he said it is not feasible as there is no network and if it is done it would cost arount 4 lakhs to setup tower (way too high)
I am looking for some cheap alternative and I want to know if it's possible to do that

This was very good business untill 3-4 years ago but with broadband prices coming down day by day its not that lucrative any more but thats for you to calculate. I would really suggest you to go with sify as they take care of the branding/advertisment and the billing and everything and all you have to do is hire one or two guys to keep your network up and running at customers end. You would still have to pay for the tower and initial set up but if you can get 50-60 + customers to begin with then it would in time become profitable.
Best way to do this would be by setting up a sify tower then buy 2-3 Microtik BTS and wireless CPE's for customer end and this would in the long run turn out to be more profitable and less downtime for your customers and as compared to the cables running up and down the streets a wireless setup will cost you a lot less be it maintenance or initial setup. one CPE will cost less then Rs1200 which would work fine upto 2 Km with line LOS. For those customers where LOS is not possible get them to pay for the whole cable in advance as setup fee and you would do just fine.

Tulip or Mtnl or any other ISP could be a good option only if you have potential of getting hundreds of customers but if its a small number sify is the best company to go with. Sify's reps will help your staff with the setup and everything as well. Sify by the way reported a loss in Delhi sector so you might wanna check its balancesheet to decide if they are worth doing business with.

If you dont have much experience with this business you should go check someone's setup first before taking the plunge There is a guy in Gurgaon who has his own brand and everything with over 6k customers and has got leased lines from Reliance, Airtel and Tata and has got load balancing and what not. Worth taking a look at Uses Ubiquity network's wireless CPE and Microtik's BTS and has I believe more then 10 towers in Gurgaon.

    Gosh... Admin--
You are really a person with a lot of knowledge.
i am b.tech 2011 and RHCE and personally I don't prefer doing job ( although there is a lot of pressure from family) so I thought it would be okay to start a broadband stuff, and you're true I don't have deep knowledge of this field. Although I am not sure if sify provides connection in that part of world.
could you please guide me and provide any info about initial cost (approx) for tower n all stuff.
    thankyou

Sify can beam signals from even 15 kilometres away if you get a tall enough tower. I am not sure where abouts this village is but if its somewhere near the airport runway then you might run into trouble for erecting a tower there and might have to take it off so get permission first. Hope we dont have this situation there . Instead of buying new stuff buy a tower from some one who wants to shut down their setup. There is a guy a Bindapur trying to sell his setup but that was about a year ago and he wasent charging anything for the number of customers he had just the equipment, towers and everything but his premises was rented so I didint buy it back then as his main tower and everything was in that building and there were no shops up for sale around that area so it looked a bit fishy to me so didint get it. You can try and see if he is still selling and just buy his tower and equipment for like 25% of the original cost or even less if he is too desperate to sell From what I saw there no one would buy the business so I hope equipment is still on sale but if not there are plenty of people in Delhi looking to shut down due to tough competition from different ISPs offering 3g data cards and CDMA and all that so its going to be a lot cheaper for you getting old stuff. A new tower would cost you anything 1.25Lakh upwards depending upon the height and material you use. Your set up for local wireless setup is not included in this so add another 30-50k for each BTS which you would need according to what directions your customers are and if you want to cover all directions I guess 3 would do it. Mayapuri scrap dealers are a must visit before you make a deal anywhere because those guys even sell worldwar 1 tanks there ha ha ha so I am sure one of them must have a complete tower minus the equipment. You also need a building with strong pillars if you don't have open space in your premises to hold the tower.

Call up Sify and get some one to visit you and explain to you about the costs and everything and the prospects in your area You can find the number from sify's website under Franchise tab.

    Hey Admin,
    Thanks for all the detail.
Do you have number of that guy or anyother who was about to sell his stuff?
I own one house in bindapur so if he is there locating him would not be a problem.
Moreover you said that there may be others who want to sell their equipments, i googled it but nothing worthful came out.
Should I call basic Sify customer care?
    Thanks for your immense help.

    @ Thakur_Vicky
I havent got his number any more. You will have to look around a bit. Go to a few cable operators around your area and I am sure they would have info about people looking to sell their setup.

You wont find anything on Google. Its just word of mouth.
Sify has a seperate section on their website called Franchise or something. If you are looking to be spoon fed with all this info I wonder how are you going to set everything up. Did you even open their website and looked for information? Its marked very clearly on their site and no one can miss it.

A tower is a tower ... You just give the specs to whoever you hire to build it for you and they will do as you ask them to do. Did you not speak to the sify franchise people?
Do yourself a favor and come out of your house and go to the nearest sify cable operator and talk to the guy there for half an hour and you will get all the info you ever need. There is no conflict of interest so info would be more or less honest.
