    Exclamation Cannot get wifi

I am using a wifi modem given by mtnl. Yesterday when I tried to connect my phone to wifi, I couldn't load anything. It was working till afternoon but suddenly this started happening in the evening. My phone connects to the wifi but the wifi icon in the mobile phone is grey, not blue like before. I tried with other devices as well but they have the same problem so there is something wrong with the modem or settings. I had rebooted the modem but didn't work. I hadn't changed any settings of my pc. I don't want to reset the modem and call mtnl for the modem settings. The model number of my modem is DM 856W. What should I do?

Go to network connections in control panel :

Go to properties of your wireless connection then double click on tcp/ip 4

    Click on obtain IP automatically

    Click on obtain DNS automatically

Now reboot and see if your wifi works. If it does then do the same on your phone as well How you do it on your phone would depend on which phone you use.

If this does not resolve the problem then I am afraid you would have to wait for some one who knows better

Thanks for replying so quickly. I was using automatic IP and comodo dns so I changed both to automatic but when I restarted the modem and pc, there was no internet so I changed the dns to mtnl's and kept the IP to automatic and restarted the modem and pc again. I got internet this time but I am still not getting wifi. I have an android phone. I scanned and reconnected my device with the wifi by entering the code but I still can't receive data over wifi.

We changed the primary and secondary dns servers of LAN settings under Interface Setup and then restarted the modem with current settings from maintenance. I even changed the wifi password and restarted from maintenance once again and also restarted the modem and pc. All is working fine for now.

Also the IP address in ipv4 was changed from automatic to something else.

You can buy your own router and configure with the modem you already have. It only costs Rs700-800 for a router if you already have the modem.

I am from mumbai. I had to give a written application for a wifi modem to the telephone exchange. They will charge some non refundable amount with the next telephone bill and also keep chargng you for the modem every month. So it is better to buy a modem but sometime if you have a problem in connection, people from call centre will always keep blaming your modem.
