Non overlapping wifi channels

Can anyone tell me all the non overlapping wifi channels in India for better speed performance? I have been messing with my wifi router settings , and came to know wifi channels can affect the speed. And I read somewhere that in the US there are 3 non overlapping channels: 1, 6, 11. Or is it same in India too?

Never heard of overlapping channels on a wifi router, is this something which can be done on any router?

Yes, on any router, in the wifi settings there is an option to choose wifi channel. Default setting is auto-select. But at auto select my mobile phone couldn't search for this network. So, I searched a bit and found out about non overlapping channels. That forum said 1, 6, 11 and non overlapping channels in the US. But I am convinced these are also non overlapping in India too.
