Exclamation Misguiding people

Mera Telephone Nahin Lagta
This is the 1st time i m using triband, with 599 plan & have used other BB ISPs since jan 2002, so i know very

well. which 1 is the best in mumbai. i had applied for this connection becos i had no other option (other than my

cablewallah through zeenext or through tata vsnl BB) & got it after a month !!! (thank god, they activated the DSL

link/sync signal on the same day). [@ my previous physical address location, in the nextdoor suburb, i had applied,

but dint get it for 5 months !!! & i had to pay for the phoneline rent, just becos their DSL exchange was not setup

(thank god the local cable guy's ISP service was good)].
To my amusement the surfing speeds are slow, i get ranges mostly of dialup to dsl speed(only sometimes) during peak

hours except popular sites like rediff, indiatimes etc. well also depends on the website has been hosted (UK or

US). but yahoo opens a little slower than rediff. sometimes surfing is very fast (25-200 KBytes/s) during non-peak

hours & especially @ night slots (12 - 8 am). same above holds for downloading speed.

I am using 3Com company's 3Com OfficeConnect ADSL Wireless 54Mbps 11g Firewall Modem cum Router, which is also a

homenetworking device like u must have heard of Linksys/Netgear/balkan/Dlink router only. But only in 3com's case,

u dont have to buy for a seperate modem, apart from the other companies above.
In terms of technology, its @ par/on the lines next to US robotics, a company, which has been & is still very

famous & no.1 for its dialup modems.
Though MTNL did tell me that its a compatible device, but not on their modem-router to buy list & also not

technically supported by MTNL in case of any ISP technical problem, i m not sure, whether my router causes any

problems, which i dont think so. But its always better to buy a single standalone modem-router homenetworking

device than going for a seperate modem & router, so that u can use in both DSL & LAN technology ISP connections &

also use it to connect your laptop wirelessly & desktop wired-ly in your house.

People out there who want to monitor your upload/download speed, please download a small no-nonsense software

application called DU meter available from DU Meter Home Page or netmedic or other softwares from Free Software Downloads and Software Reviews - Download.com

Now a special look @ the usage information in our account section page (which opens up veryyy slowly !!!).
In the 1st column, they have mentioned 1 GB as 1000000000 (only numbers, but have not denoted the 'term' wich shd

be MB or KB)
But our usage in 2nd column does denote the MB term (which has to be less than the plan u have taken or else you

will be charged extra).
So the difference in the 3rd column will be high, which makes u think that u have a hell lot of stuff still/yet to

be downloaded for the entire month, whereas the true part is its getting lower by the day depending upon your

amount of usage.
Seems that MTNL is misguiding us, so be careful here, especially if u r not a techie.
No wonder how this still monopolised landline company in initial stages, reached NY stock exchange listing, by

cheating us indian citizens in delhi n mumbai.

Take this connection, only if u dont have any good choice @ all, you think, in your area, better than this 1.

Manishbhai,

A kind request which I hope you will take it with the right sense and I mean it very humbly. Please do not use <ENTER> button to insert unrequired line breaks. It makes the post very difficult to read, especially long ones.

Regarding your problems of slow speeds, etc., you have a right to compalin to TRAI if you are getting a speed less than 256 kbps. TRAI has classified that Broadband is classified as internet connection with a minimum of 256 kbps speed.
