Please check you speed on Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test and paste the results here.

Also I think that you are confused between kbps and KBps. But you should get more speed - up to 32 KB/s.

When I was on BSNL's UL900+ plan (256 kbps), I used to get 25~30 KB/s (again depends upon the web site accessed and load factor). I am now on Home 500 C and I get anthing from 1.5 mbps (192 KB/s) to 1.8 mbps (230 KB/s).

You are getting speeds that are half of what is promised. 135 kb/s is not broadband and you have a right to complain to MTNL and TRAI for difficient service. But before you do that, please check the following:

    a) Do have any wiring issues?
    b) Your PC may be infected or may be running too many background processes. Use a good AV software such as Norton, McAfee or Kasperkey and clean up the registry using registry cleaner software such as CleanMyPC.
    c) If not already done, use a splitter to split voice and data lines at the first entry point of the external telephone line to your apartment/house.

If your house/apartment is more than 5/6 km from the exchange, your speeds will be slower. But MTNL must assure you of guranteed speeds - TRAI has classified that BB must be 256 kbps (guranteed) or higher.

If nothing else works, switch to a better provider.

In this case what I said earlier (point b) is true:

    - You had viruses
    or
    - You had malware/spyware that were running in the background consuming bandwidth
    or
    - Too many processes/services were running consuming CPU

Now that you have formatted your PC, please do the following:

    a) Get a good AV software with built-in Internet security protection - something like Kasperkey, Bit Defender, Norton, McAfee, etc.
    b) Pirated copies may not work as you will not get updates that are so important to keep abrest with latest trojans, phishers/hackers, hijackers, etc.
    c) Stay away from unknown "keygen" and "cracks" - they are source of browser hijackers and worms
    d) Invest in genuine software

Speed tests are not always accurate and they will vary even if done in 5 minutes. So don't be too much worried about that. Try a download and look at the average speeds.

a much better site with accurate results would bewww,dslreports.com
I am in south delhi and am getting above 220kbps download speed..!!!!
    its much better than airtel
But ''MTNL 1504 customer care is awfulm it takes at least 15 min to hook on to operator,
better to leave a complain on IVR their automated system
Ull get the guy within 8 hr...!!!!
Field service is superb...as it is overstaffed......

    Exclamation speed diversity

i switched my tariff plan to unlimited in may this year.
before that i was using the 199 plan..

so in may i used to get speeds upto 1mbps in downloads..mind it downloads..
i downloaded many movies in a very short time..

but then from june 5 onwards the cunning mtnl people slashed down my speed to a freakin 256kbps and now wat i get is just 20-27kbps..

    wat to do now.?
any suggestios on how to break this speedlock..?

    Hi!
I am new to this forum so i am not sure whether i am posting the message in the right way.

Anyways, whoever can read this, pls can u tell me wht is the difference between kbps and KBps..

I have mtnl trib unlimited connection 256kbps(or KBps,..confused), but whenever i download, i get a speed of only 24-26 kbps...So why is it called 256kbps??

Even the Mtnl site says tht the speed they deliver is "upto 256kbps" and that too if its "technically feasable"....Iam totally confused...Someone pls help me!

    Thanks in advance!!

    Welcome to India broadband forum

    256kbps = 32KBps

There is a factor of 8 between then 8kb =1KB

So the speed you get on a 256kbps connection is just about right I get 30-31KBps on my sify 256kbps connection.

    welcome welcome hans_net

    as per admin 265kbps =32KBps

its like 1 KB(Kilo Byte) is equal to 8kb (kilo bit)

if you are getting 24-26 kbps it means you are getting little slow speed just try to monitor speed for few days and if it remains same then report problem to your ISP.. and apart from that you can delete cookies and delete temp files from internet options which you can find in tools option in Internet explorer or you can go to control panel and from there you can go to internet options to dete history, cookies, temp internet files and you can try to reset your websettings too.. thats really helps

    cheers
