Thread: can't access ftp sites

hi,
I am unable to access ftp sites. I have a MTNL triband 849NU plan. I am using a Netgear wirless router/modem .

I have even opened the FTP ports 20 and 21 also in the firewall.

can anyone help ?

What client are you using to access ftp? and is it your own site or is it one of those anonymous file sharing sites?

using a router doesnt make any difference I access ftp 15-20 times a day on my wifi network at home and office so that is not an issue.

What error message do you get? Also can you try pinging the ip address of the site please and tell us if you get a reply.

When i tried to ping the site i get "request timeout". I am using IE7 to access the site. When i try to do FTP connect from the command prompt i get the same error.

Are you sure the site you are trying is still online?

Mind sharing the url ? You can PM me if its a privacy issue for you.

I dont see any reason why you cant access those sites ... Your isp could be blocking that ipaddress or may be your firewall... or in other case your ip could have been banned by the website.
Besides these there could be a lot of other reasons but lets first take the first step and make sure that site in question is indeed working and for that we would need the url.

ftp://82.144.222.116/pub/soft/SystemMechanic_v80017.zip

The site works for sure.

when did you access this site previously?
Disable windows firewall and use ftp option provided in IE7 to access ftp sites.

I think that this site may be down, even i am not able to access it, seems like the site is not responding

Can you also try using some FTP clients like cuteftp etc

The site is not working for me too.
