Question Disconnection Every 2 HOUR.

I live in mumbai , borivali [west ] shimpoli road area .

well , my problem is here , i get disconnected every 2 hour , and its EXACT 2 hour , if i set a timer from when i started my internet and ,i be back to check net , its disconnected , exact second minute , not even a second late.

so i doubt this has something to do with my internet line , or it woulndt disconnect every 2 hour EXACT imo , sometimes it could disconnect at 30 mins, but it won't ive tried all the settings on the router , btw i got STATIC ip
so my external ip is actually static , so it shouldn't disconnect , unless if its dynamic i can understand it had to renew ip , so other ppl can connect to net ,
but this is ridiculous even tho i paid 1k for static , i still get disconncted every 2 hour , and i cant host a server on this pc , so please if anyone know whats the problem , and can help me solve this out ,its been like this for like long time now
or anyone in MTNL i can contact , i dont want the 1504 , they dont know shit.

anyway thank you all in advance , hope to see some solution to this .
ps: my router is a D- Link 502T.

Hi,

This is a known issue globally with the DSL502T. The issue is that the default setting for ADSL used by MTNL (MultiMode) tends to disconnect.

Not at home so cannot provide exact details but the solution is got to do with reducing the Multimode ADSL connection to G.. something.

The place to do this is in the Modem's advanced page/ ADSL tab.

this should not affect your end speed as the MTNL bandwidth (256kbps) is a lot less than what multi mode supports (In Mbps).

I've done this and have a rock-solid connection.
Will provide more details when i get home.

Most ADSL modems have a feature - always ON or timeout after some time. I suspect that your modem is set on a timeout. Find out where this option is located - it may probably be in PPPoE options - find out from the manual or web interface. Change this to 'Always On'.

okay.. then the only other issue i can think of is some issue with your connection with the exchange.

One thing is to check the contacts of the RJ11 connectors (Line to Splitter, Splitter to ADSL Modem) you are using to see if it still shows a clear gold color or if it is oxidized to green/brown. If so it will need replacing.

There seems to be a way to check the ASDL attenuation you are facing from the ADSL status page. I will post mine from home and may be we can compare the two.

Sorry that did not work for you.

ok heres my ADSL status :SNR Margin Downstream - 31 dB
SNR Margin Upstream - 13 dB

Line Attenuation: Downstream - 10dB
Upstream -7 dB

Data Rate: 2013 Download 511 Upload .
Ps: this status is with the ''MULTI-MODE'' settings . btw , i doubt its got something to do with my splitter connections , but i will recheck it anyway , because last time i was disconnecting every 6 hours , then 1 week later , it started disconnecting every 4 hours exact , and now after 2 weeks its every 2 hour . and i havent touched any wires or something , it sounds like someone at server changing the ip lease time to 2 hours . thanks Ameyvaidya , waiting for your post .
