Default Install issue with Linksys WiFi Router

    Hi Networking Experts,

I have a MTNL provided ADSL Modem/Router DSL-502T. It is currently set-up in PPPoE Mode. It is NOT in Bridge Mode.

I have a Linksys WRT54GS Wireless-G Router that I need to connect to the above mentioned modem/router.

A direct connection from Laptop to DSL-502T allows me to get on the internet.

If I add the Linksys router to the mix of things, I am not able to connect to the internet.

    DSL-502T IP address = 192.168.1.1
WRT54GS IP address = 192.168.2.1 (I changed it from the default 192.168.1.1 after reading posts on several forums)

What are the settings that I need to change on the Linksys WRT54GS router so as to connect successfully to the internet? I have made sure that all the wires are connected properly, rebooted the routers several times)

Some forums I read said that I need to enable/disable DHCP. But I am not clear if I should do that on the MTNL or Linksys.

I am able to provide more info if you need it to help me.
Thank you in advance for your help.

What is the version of firmware on your DSL-502T ?

You would need to upgrade to version 7.00.4 or later to get your setup working.

Upgrade your firmware and see if it works and if it doesnt please give us another shout.

    Thanks

    Current Firmware Version : V2.00B01T01.ML.20050530

When I checked to download the new version of the firmware, I came across this forum.

I may sound stupid, but can you direct me to the right place to download the 7.00.4 version as suggested?

I did visit D-Link Building Networks for People.. -> Choose Broadband, ADSL 2+, but they do not have DSL-502T listed. It has not been replaced by GLB-502T. Do you recommend that I download the firmware of this model?

Please ignore my firmware upgrade post. v 7.00.4 was meant for your wireless router not the mtnl modem. Dont worry about the firm ware as yet.. try the link below and see how it goes first.

    This should sort out the issue : Networking a D-Link DSL502T with DL524 - Wireless - Networking

    Hey Admin,
I am sorry, but I am not a networking person. I am not able to follow along with the instructions on the link that you have provided.
I did go ahead and disable the DHCP on the DSL-502T, but I am not able to set the static IP on Linksys. There are several options available on the linksys setup page and I am not clear which one I should tinker with.
    I need more help.
    Thanks,
    Bhavin

Lightbulb Simple steps to Connect MTNL provided ADSL Modem/Router DSL-502T

In the starting i want to request to remove everything or in simple words just dismantle your network.

What i am keeping in mind that you are going to connect the system wireless. (Now if you are connecting the system with lan cable then connect PC and router. Remove all the network connections if any.)

    1. Now connect the router and the modem and please make sure they both are switched off. This is necessary in both the wired and wireless case.

    2. Once you are over with the first step, switch on the modem and let the modem be ready with all the lights.

    3. Switch on the router and let all the LEDs to be there.

    4. There is a CD given with the router, start installing the router with that. Now at any point if it asks you to select something like PPPOE, dynamic connection... please choose Automatic Configuration - DHCP. As this is required in case of all the ADSL Connections. Irrespective of you are using MTNL, Reliance or Airtel.

I think this will solve your problem as this is the simplest way of connecting.

Dont go onto the technicality of bridging mode/pppoe/DHCP mode.

Leave the things as it is... or

If you have changed, just reset everything to factory settings by pressing reset button for 5-10 sec.

    Any problem or pange
we are happy to hear about

    Chow!!!

Yes Admin...Lekhi123's advise worked perfectly fine...I tried several times with CD instructions but didnt work...the instructions provided by Lekhi123 worked in first go....

Theres is a new problem now...Please advise if i should use a new thread for this...

The router works perfectly fine with the laptop connected to it...
but when i try to use the wireless facility i get problems..
The wireless adapter in my ACER laptop doesnt seem to be working...When i go to device manager and check...it is installed properly with the driver working fine...but the software that is installed in my computer which creates wireless network keeps saying that there is no driver installed...i tried installing the driver repeatedly from the CD provided with the laptop...still doesnt work...(please advise if i should use a new thread for this issue)

    Thanks in advance

    Separate thread is not required.

    Can you check the following?

    a) go to "My Network Places" and right click on this icon.
    b) Select 'Properties'
    c) In the "Network Connections" window, at least two entries should appear:
    - Local Area Connection (this is for wired LAN)
    - Wireless Network Connection (this is wireless LAN)

If "Wireless Network Connection" appears above, right click on this and click on "View Available Wireless Networks". Post the results and screenshots.

    Other points to consider:

    a) You must have Windows XP/Pro on your laptop.
    b) You must have enabled Wireless Networking on Linksys WRT54G. To know how to do this refer this thread: http://www.indiabroadband.net/bsnl-b...er-wrt54g.html (Setup of ADSL Modem/Router UT-300R2U with Linksys Wireless Router WRT54G) (Refer the WRT54G section only).
