Cool General Questions re: Mblaze Ultra, newly launched in my city

    Hello,

I have very bad experience of wired landline BSNL broadband in my city, Kota, Rajasthan. Every few days there is some problem or the other. I am thinking of getting this product and I had some questions. I'd be very grateful if you could answer them:

    1) what is your general experience with the ultra modem that offers upto 10 Mbps speed?

    2) can a generic modem (datacard) be used insted of the one provided by MTS? What is its cost?

    3) if i buy postpaid will there be an installation fee apart from the cost of the datacard?

    4) is roaming free pan-India?

    5) is it possible to set up a wifi connxn with the datacard? I was wondering how this could be done if it is a USB modem. I have a tablet and phone that I use to connect to wifi. I also have two ADSL modems at home, one of them is d-link latest one that I got recently.

This last question is very important and may well be the deciding dactor in my purchase. I will appreciate very much if you could take some time to respond to my queries. I dont know the answers. Please guide me.

    Thanks!

I don't know the answer to all your questions, but here are the answers which I do know.

    - can a generic modem (datacard) be used insted of the one provided by MTS? What is its cost?
Yes you can as long it a unlocked datacard. Cost a data card can be anything from Rs1200 to Rs2990

    - is roaming free pan-India?
Yes its free. When traveling there is no charge on data.

    - is it possible to set up a wifi connxn with the datacard?
Yes it is possible, just connect the datacard into the wifi modem.

You can buy any data card that supports 21mbps speed but the problem is you wont really get anything more then 4-5mbps on any network in India. I am saying this from experience as I have tried almost all the 3g service providers and throughput does not go beyond 7mbps and thats really the max in my experience. Reliance 3G provided me the fastest speeds. They say their network is 21mbps capable and I say its bullshit. Reliance 3g speed does not go beyond 7mbps and I have tried different locations too.

There are many datacards which you can get, one which you can choose from is the Huawei E3121 which support speeds up to 14Mbps, this will cost you around Rs1500, but you can get cheaper ones as well of other brands as well.

I have a MTS data card too and it crawls in the evening and even Google home page takes a while to open but during the night it works fine.

I used to have a Tata WiFi connection and it used to be the only wireless connection which used to work in the area, so a lot of people had it and it was so slow during evenings that I used to give up using it. So its the same thing with any other connection, its going to have its pro with the excellent coverage but have its con with the large number of users whivh means slow speed during peak times.
