Yes this is true.you can send free faxes to delhi bombay and big cities of India and also to many countries of the world all for free.this service is provided for free by some guys sitting in the states.google search for more details.

That would be IP based, the whole idea of FAX is for secure communications. If you are going to have free fax services, there is possibility he might be able to take stuff (unless there is some sort of encryption at both ends). It would be very similar with how our emails work. Pretty easy to break.

Yes, it is not safe. You need some sort of protection.
