Default Dowry System still not Diminish

It is same that the dowry system is still prevalent in our society.Like untouchability and cast system dowry system is an evil which is retarding our progress as nation.
Offering dowry and accepting it both are insulting of our women. Dowry reduce the bride to a commodity for sale it the marriage market. Love, freedom, progress, everything stands ridiculed. The evil of dowry system has vitiated the lives of the rich and poor alike. The unfulfilled promise of dowry leads to persecution of wives and daughter in law. It often leads to homicide or inhuman torture. So long as women remain backward and economically dependent on men the curse of dowry system can’t be uprooted. Educated and employment alone can create write condition for removing this curse. Legal prohibition of dowry is not enough. For how can law crew greed and lust for money? Strong social disapproval of dowry is the only guarantee against this evil.I think the youths should lead the movement against dowry which is a blot on them also media, press,Tv news channels should make a concerted campaign against shameful custom.
So what are you thinking about the matter? Give some idea to diminish this evil system.

That's the another problem of our society which you mention killing of girl fetus.I don't know how much thing they have to tolerate in this society. In 21st century still this news are very common in India no law can't protect them(women) until the society become change.
But still i am optimistic i want to believe that in new era few literate urban class has changed their view and also we need to explore this from the entire Indian society. Hopefully one day we will succeed to develop the society.

Accepting dowry is shameful and bad especially for the girls family, who sometimes have great difficultly in getting the dowry together.
For those who give it form their own will its different, but it should not be forced upon to the girls family from the boys side! Instead these people should not be afraid and call the police and inform them!

@ J4k - yes one day it may be the other way round the boy will have to give dowry!

I refuse to attend weddings where I can see / sense money (or money in any form such gold, property, assets) being part of the deal. I even go further to break good friendship to a hi-hello basis. This has happened with a couple of guys, I know.

At my son's wedding, I will insist on 50% spending for all expenses.

It will go sooner or later.Problem is with the mentality of the old generations.
Don't think Generation X supports it.
