Default Railways to run Bullet train on Delhi-Patna route

Patna: Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav on Thursday said that the Indian Railways have commenced the process for a Bullet train that will run between Delhi and Patna.

"We will introduce a bullet train between Delhi and Patna for which the Railways are going to appoint a consultant for presenting a feasibility report," Lalu, who is also the RJD chief, told a public meeting here.

Speaking at the public meet, Lalu informe that a locomotive factory would be inaugurated at Marhaura in Chapra next month and an electric engine factory would be set up in Madhepura, which was last year hit by the floods of the River Kosi from Nepal.

The Union Cabinet has given clearance to the Railways to set up seven factories worth rupees 55,000 crore (550 billion rupees) in Bihar, Lalu added.

These projects would be able to generate enough employment in next three years that the local youth of Bihar would not have to look out of the State for job opportunities, said Lalu while adding "instead people from other states would come to Bihar for employment".

He informed that the Railways have take over two loss-making units of Bharat Wagon at Muzaffarpur and Mokama and also the Dalmiyanagar factory for revival.

I remember some years ago a Japanese team was appointed to suggest improvements in the Indian Railway network and particularly the tracks.

After detailed study, they submitted a one light report (of course with some 100 page annexure)

"The fact that the Indian Railway is still functioning proves that God exists"

    [Bhagwan bharose chalta hai bhai]

So all the best for the Bullet Trains.

feasibility is debatable as cost of building infrastucture required are huge. infact there is no little difference fares of bullet train and air fares.

But its certainly possible to built such train in INDIA, but i don't see this happening in near future

I don't agree with you there.Railways has improved a lot since Laloo has come & he deserves credit for it.

With air turbine fuel only going to rise in the future due to shortage, railways are a good option to harvest.

    ^^^

There are two ways of avoiding accidents,
1> Improve the tracks and rolling stocks
    2> Reduce the speed

In the present regime, Railways have adopted the second method.

All Rajdhani & Shatabdi Trains now take 10% more time to reach the same destination than 5 yrs back. For other trains its evcen more.

So less speed = less accidents.

It is not possible to run a bullet train like service on present tracks, signals infrastructure with current congestion. A train with 8-10 coaches running at 200 kmph takes 5 km to stop without derailing. Such a train requires a clear track for at least 25~30 minutes of full speed run at all times. This comes to nearly 100 km. Also it requires complete computerized signalling in the entire route.

Current Indian tracks are certified for a maximum speed of 175 kmph on straight lines and 120 km on curve banks. Safety demands that trains run at max of 90% of these limits. Unmanned level crossings will have to be removed and complete tracks will have to be fenced to avoid stray and domestic animals from venturing on the track.

One has to only look back at the ICE accident in Germany that happed a few years ago.

So unless special tracks with automated signals are built, this will not be possible.

    yes.
Lalu had said on national TV that he has got garib rath to provide the benefit of AC ride for the poor; if he has little money, he can always ride one/two station and he has none, he can even get on and get off at the same station - all free of cost.
    So trust Lalu for anything.

That is one of the major reasons...

Apart from that distance between Delhi & Patna is ideal to start a pilot project... To determine the feasibility... Its neither too long, nor too short!
