Earth Hour's aim to reach more than one billion
people in 1000 cities around the world in 2009. Earth Hour is inviting

    Default Another Update

    mail_head_1.jpg
    Dear Colleague,

Two years back, Sydney was blacked out for an hour.

Last year, 400 cities across the world went dark.

These were not power cuts. But a fight. Fight against climate change. A fight to save our only planet.

    It was Earth Hour.

This year, one billion people from 2000 cities across the world will turn out the lights of their homes and offices to tell the world leaders that climate change is real. That it is happening in their cities and it is happening now. And they want something done!

In India, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and many more cities like Cochin, Thiruvanathapuram, Hyderabad, Pune, Dehradun, Shimla, Guwahati and Allahabad will observe Earth Hour. So will many corporates like- Wipro, Infosys, NDPL, Birlasoft, TCS, CB Richard Ellis, PVR Cinemas, Waves Cinemas, The Taj Group, ITC Welcom Group, Welcom Heritage, Standard Chartered Bank, HSBC, Yes Bank, Canara HSBC Life, ING Vyasa Bank, Nokia, Tata Indicom, HP, Intel, Google, DLF Luxury Homes and Tetrapak. Giants like Air India and RBI in Mumbai will shut down lights for an hour. Governments of Delhi and Mumbai are supporting this initiative. The list is long and still growing.

So far, 200,000 students have joined Earth Hour. IIT Delhi, Mumbai, Roorkee and IIM- Ahemdabad will participate too.

Join Earth Hour on Saturday, 28th March. Turn off the lights from 8.30 to 9.30 pm. Come out and march with hundreds of others in Dilli Haat in Delhi and BPT park, Colaba in Mumbai.

It will be an hour to stand up and stand together. Only for our planet.

if not possible for you then call your parents at home and tell them to switch off all the lights
Its a great step, everyone should participate and contribute.

I don't need to worry about this, my electricity provider (mseb) takes care of this every damn single day!! Load-shedding for 4 bloody hours every single day!

I think he has a point. How can he turn off the lights when
there is no power in the first place.

    -F

p.s I agree we need to reduce our power consumption. Power down
    personal computers too.

Yes we only can do that.Because most of the developed country are emitting green house gas in high rate(1st & 2nd, China & US).Also they never want to agree to take major step about that matter.

    I'm in too.

But what I feel sad about is that those bloody americans don't want to acknowledge that the green house effect does exist.

And if I'm right, they alone use about 50% of all the power generated in the world.

So it does not make much of a difference unless they don't follow in the steps of other countries to reduce GHE.

For them its not a question of awareness but a question of weaning themselves of their comforts and whims.

mate americans make about 5% of world population and consume about 26% of the worlds energy, US & Canada together consume 50% of total energy.

That sounds good, apart from that you can still save light at home. Keep lights off when not required and if required at night then you can use USB lamp which runs from system only

There are number of things in list
