Talking We'll ban English, Computers! :SP!!!!

Hey all, we are all so disgruntled at government offices and services now, even we rant about our broadband speeds?? Now here's a kicker that will surely ruffle up your feathers !

This article appeared in today's TOI (Sunday April 12, 09)

"The Samajwadi Party has vowed to work against the use of English in education and computers in new projects. While these are pitched as populist measures — abolition of ‘‘expensive education in English’’ would allegedly create a level playing field for all and less use of computers would generate jobs — the steps are being viewed with alarm as they have the potential to drag back the country by years...."

Read the whole article here, its appeared on the first page, first headline

Your views please.... I don't whether to laugh or to cry....These illiterate politicians themselves don't know what's english and computers have done to the economy.
Having studied in an ICSE school for 10 years, i don't feel that Hindi was being overlooked there, so why exactly should that bloody politician ban English

It takes me back to this thread of mine http://www.indiabroadband.net/genera...ia-headed.html (Where's india headed??), now i know India is headed 20 years back!

Am i missing something here guys??
    DON'T beam me up, Scotty!

Some Indian politicians can go to any extent to get votes... But I'm sure even if this party comes to power, as usual, they will not fulfill their promise in their 5 year term... So, no worries...

Now this is election time don't be confused if such type of comment get more from various political party. This thing already happen in early 90's in WB when few strong political party in WB protest against computers(even ATM) for same reason. Now they changed their policy. I think these politicians are not illiterate they know everything may be better than us just they are trying to catch few more vote.Don't worry really nothing will be happen.
This is very funny time just enjoy such comment.

Probably this day aint far away ...

Jokes apart ... the idea of reducing the use of english in computer education is not bad but not at all practical also. the reason i said not bad is ... china is doing this. all the computer education is simultaneously made available in chineese with english in china. you will find the chineese version of almost any popular computer book(search the net). but this scenario is not at all possible in india.

As already said, it would not be bad, but would be not possible in India (atleast for now).

By the way, I know that most (or all ) of you might not be able to read or understand Malayalam. But, just posting these funny pictures here of Windows in Malayalam. I am laughing myself out thinking about it. lol

I hope that someone knowing Malayalam here, will come across this. I'm sure that this would make their day.

The second one uses a different slang of Malayalam, made famous by a film called "Rajamanikkam"....
The second one is the funniest.

    @ saurav
So is the case for Japan where most computers run inJapanese language.
In fact as per experts, sanskrit is perhaps one of the best suited language for computer programming.

But that apart, I am sure this manifesto of the Samajwadi Party was also written on a Laptop running on Windows.

    Default Cultural Invasion

Cultural invasion, that is the word.

Imagine a world where avg. temperature is 32-38 degree celcius. When people wear shoes (that too with socks), jeans (tight), tie, full sleeve, like we will freeze of cold otherwise.

They were used by British to protect themselves from freezing cold in their region and failed to give up their culture when they came here. And the invasion was so deep, it penetrated our mind.

I believe it is our age of cultural invasion, people who got no idea of rock and jazz keep jumping to those. Now yoga is a hit all over the world, CIA plans to recruit more Hindi speaking candidates. Microsoft includes Hindi and South Indian language packs. Wait, tomorrow is ours ( if something is left that we can own)

Ask them to stop using words like mic, bail, court etc. Let us see what they will do.

Don't talk of china and japan here saurav! They believe in extreme measures in putting limits on citizens.
We are a free and a great nation and a better one from china and japan at least in that aspect...
i don't want to be taught what to do and what not to, whether to talk in english or hindi somewhere, whether to visit a website or not.... i have my own experience and will for that, and i do not want to lose this freedom.

Yes, we do have our own rights, and I think that we are now wasting our time discussing about these kind of announcements. We do not need to worry about it.

    ^

But that apart ... Mastery of English is one of the main reason why India has been able to make a huge mark on the world stage .... remember the initial IT boom was lead by the Outsourcing sector which was solely responsible for India's sudden emergence on the world stage .......

Also that is one of the main reasons why India is so strong in the software side

and thats also why the second highest no of Microsoft Employees are Indians(First being Americans ofcourse) and also why we have Laxmi Mittals , Indra Nooyis which neither Japan or the Chinese have inspite of their talent ....

People should realise that mastering Foriegn languages is one of the strong points of India .... probably due to the fact that we have a lot of Indian languages

CIA has been recruiting candidates who speak different languages ..... so they can do a better job of collecting intelligence on that particular country .... nothing we can be proud of

Microsoft includes Hindi and South Indian language packs. Wait, tomorrow is ours ( if something is left that we can own)
so what ?? they also include Hundred different languages ... even languages like Vietnamese :tt2: ....

Ask them to stop using words like mic, bail, court etc. Let us see what they will do.

Afraid of course, of the stiff response from youth, and those who use their brain.
