Default Lankan Govt claims LTTE Supremo Prabakaran has been Shot Dead !

Sri Lankan Govt claims LTTE chief Prabakaran was killed in action , trying to break the Sri Lankan defence .The announcements will be made final after DNA testing is done and the body identified . Celebrations have already started in Sri Lanka as there are reports of spordic protests and voilence in Tamil Nadu . I have been advised not to travel around for a while and sit at home .

    Update

State television broke into its regular programming to announce Prabhakaran's death, and the government information department sent a text message to cell phones across the country confirming he was killed along with top deputies, Soosai and Pottu Amman.
    -MSN
He and his top deputies then drove an armor-plated van accompanied by a bus filled with rebel fighters toward approaching Sri Lankan forces, sparking a two-hour firefight, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

Troops eventually fired a rocket at the van, ending the battle, they said. Troops pulled Prabhakaran's body from the van and identified it as that of the rebel leader, they said. The attack also killed Soosai, the head of the rebels' naval wing, and Pottu Amman, the group's feared intelligence commander, the officials said.

seems like its going great guns for Congress these days
(after all, Prabhakaran was their enemy no. 1)

So what did the DMK leader say at the loss of his "old friend"

It was more than 22 years ago that the IPKF went to Sri Lanka to neutralise the LTTE.
whatever be the end, there would forever be a chapter on LTTE in the history books, alteast for their use of female fighters and their networking abilities.
Prabhakaran today is well past his prime age and as news suggests, was also suffering from cancer. He also lost most of his close comrades.
The victory would have been really glorious had it come some 20 years ago.

You are right on that one. Who cares, so long as he died. Secondly people will now probably make him a martyr, that is a bit worrying.

You see what happened was, they actually intended to use those
cyanide capsules. When they took the capsules out of the package
they noticed the expiration date on those capsules had passed.
After all it had been hanging around their necks for 20 years.
They didn't want to take a risk of some allergic reaction if they took them.

Important lesson : It is always good to discard expired medication.

If Prabhakaran is dead, they were just waiting for the election results. If they killed him, they didn't exactly a day after election results. They just declared now.

Nothing wrong if people do that also at last he was fighting for a cause which was justified, and for whom he was fighting all started to give up knowing that too he fought a losing battle instead of fleeing.

It is difficult to win using weapons when you are fighting a mightier enemy. Still fighting for a cause is justified even if someone looses. But killing a powerful country's prominent politician was surely a wrong move, what ever be the reason.

Still they managed to had a strong hold for more than 20 years, only terrorist group in world which had its own Air Wing and Water Wing.
Sri Lankan Army became mightier just a year ago only and that too with other countries support..

Velupillai Prabakaran and his organization wanted to end each and everyone coming in their way, and their they made a Big Mistake by assassinating Rajiv Gandhi

Prabhakaran avoided grooming young leaders to avoid a threat to his post. Col. Karuna would have been an effective replacement. But India managed to snatch him a year before. Not much hope left unless there is a miracle.

LTTE is finished .... all his lieutenants are killed .... SL army is stronger than ever .... all their ammunitions have been captured or destroyed ...... so no more guns

and with prabhakaran dead all the fund source that LTTE was receiving from will dry up ......

Killing innocent civilians is hardly a noble cause.
Some Tamil separatist even in our country think of him as a liberator. But for me LTTE was a terrorist organization and Prabhakaran was a terrorist...nothing more nothing less. I am glad he died like a punk. I would have hated it if he had died with any honour.

I never thought such an end for Prabhakaran. Whether he deserves it or not is completely independent from his stealth abilities and well placed contacts in Lankan and Indian politics & intelligence. He had enough time to escape. I don't know why he failed to do that. If so LTTE would have been as strong as it was even after loosing the land they control.

I really miscalculated Sonia Gandhi. When she got into an alliance with DMK a known supporter of Prabhakaran, I felt bad. I think the first thing she must have demanded to her trusted men would be Prabhakaran's head. Indian army's support was generous in terms of technology, weapons and intelligence in current victory by Lankan army. But they are cautious not to draw attention. Knowing his ties with Pakistan and drug smuggling mafia, his death will be a great relief to Indian authorities. He also managed to run a good network of arms dealers. If left unnoticed, these dealers can cause trouble in India. They are definitely weak as they no longer enjoy LTTE support.
