Indian politicians and B-Crats can go so much of it, i never thought..

Now here is the story of a Hero of 26/11 who saved lives of many many people. But what was he prized with??? Rs. 500/- ..Guys, how did Indian govt. recognise his effect with that 500/- its even smaller than the prize money given to the spammers here..

    i feel depressed..

and indeed shocked. read this story.:

That's really sad . Deserving people never get rewarded. There was another story of a fisherman in Kolkatta. During the East Pakistan war the Indian Army was trying to cross a river during a storm and the boat capsized. A fisherman his father went to their rescue and he dived all night in the sea to retrieve the arms and ammunition that was on the boat. The military itself recongnized the effort and made it clear that if the fisherman had not saved india would have lost the war. For his effort he was awarded and pension was given to him. Now the catch is he is still getting a pension of Rs 100, can you imagine just Rs 100. When he enquired he came to know the pension has increased it is 3000 and not Rs 100.

Yes very right that is why recently most of the retired army officers returned their Medals to government because of pension issue imposed by Pay Commision. That is why they started "One-Rank, One-Pay" movement against government.

More than that people now a days select MBA or IT as their career option. One of the retired colonel said that i would not allow my son to join army, rather than that i wish my son chooses different thing as his career option

Dont worry Admin, we will make this forum such a place from where you get enough income and we can share it to the people like these who deserve it.

I remember a few news channels mentioned his heroics on 26/11. Even when terrorists kept shooting at CST station, he kept on announcing warning messages so that more innocent people dont come where the action was taking place. He didnt fled even when terrorists came very close to him shooting blindly.

Hats off to Bablu Kumar Deepak. This is very sad that such heroes are being forgotten in such short span of time.

I am going to play devil's advocate here. Why do you guys think
    he deserves an award.

    1. He is in his cabin
    2. He sees terrorists shooting from a distance
    3. He locks himself in his cabin shaking in fear.
    4. He calls another announcer and lets him know.
    5. He calls the police and requests backup
    6. He opens the door only when he hears his boss and is escorted home.

Maybe I am missing something and the article is not complete.

Do we award people these days just for doing their job. What was
    the bravery involved here???

Avoid using such large screenshots in forum posts. It looks bad. For such articles/stories/news ... simply copy paste the article in "quote/unquote" tags and provide the source link at the bottom... Just a suggestion.

    @farce

I didnt read this article. I heard about him and even saw CCTV footages on news channels just a few days after the attack.

The job of an announcer at a railway station is to announce the schedule of trains and some other important notifications.

He could easily have fled from the scene when the attack took place. He stood his ground. Kept on announcing - Warning people not to come to this part of the station. Warning people that there is a shootout going on. So that more innocent people dont get trapped. Even the terrorists pointed gun at his announcement chamber(i myself saw it on cctv footages). But he kept on announcing.

This is what was told by the news channels. May be it was a made up story. I dont know.

On reading the article carefully, I now realize that the Announcer I was talking about in my post was the other announcer - "Vishnu Zende". Vishnu Zende did all what I mentioned.

Here's the link - Forgotten 26/11 hero gets Rs 500 as award: Rediff.com news

From the link I quote :

"I was trapped in my cabin until a senior officer came to my rescue. I had locked the door but was still shivering as the door was not strong enough to protect me. It was so fragile that it could give in after one strong kick. Only after the senior officer came, I identified his voice, opened the door and then reached home safe."

Doesn't sound very brave to me. What he did was good and commendable
but not a great heroic act.

Well, from the link and quote above he couldn't have easily fled becuase
he was petrified and trapped in his cabin and locked himself in to
    protect himself.

this's is confusing... I am under the impression that they both handled separate sections of the station. And moreover it was he who informed vishnu of the danger. So he deserves more credit than vishnu isn't it ?

Being afraid need not mean that he didn't do his job (unfortunately the report doesn't give this information)

The "act" of courage is missing in this story... any tom dick or harry woud have done what he did... May be I am missing something in the story.

The information we get from different sources might be different, and after I have gone through this thread and the news article, I think that though it was not such a big act of bravery, he deserved to be given atleast some good 'consolation'.

If thats the case I don't see why vishnu should get 10 lakhs either.
