Default Former president of India humiliated by a US based Airline

Yes, it's true. Dr. APZ Kalam, former President of India was frisked by Continental Airline of United States at IGI airport, New Delhi. In what is seen as a clear violation of protocol, former President was treated as a commoner as he was frisked by the ground staff of Continental Airlines at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) on April 24, 2009 at the insistence of the company's American boss. The former President was on his way to Newark on Continental Airlines Flight CO 083.

Kalam was reportedly forced to wait on the aerobridge even as the airlines security personnel debated whether to put him under the security scanner or not. Kalam was asked to surrender before the security officials for a complete body check and remove his footwear as well.

I wonder how America will react if Bush or Bill Clinton will be treated like that by Indian authorities at the airport. I don't understand why this news came out in media so late. Now, all the Indian political parties are condemning the act.

I dont see anything out of the ordinary ... In my opinion every one be it PM, CM or xyz should go through full security and be treated at par with the general ublic... if some one wants special treatment they can go hire a private jet or buy one if they can afford one... why travel with general public if you dont want to be treated like one of them...

I am 100% sure that Mr Kalam didint have any problems being frisked at the gates as he is so down to earth and would have actually appreciated being treated as normal... and if thats not the case then I have made a big mistake in understanding his personality...

It would be great to see Mrs Clinton being frisked while boarding her plane she is in India these days I guess...

Really Sad. We can understand if it happened in US. After all he is not the former president of an African nation where muscle power rules. He is the former President of a country which is an atomic power.

And how does that justify him being treated any different then the general public is treated..

I really hate those people who move around in cars with those red lights and a lot of security..

If I had my way I would take off all the security from every so called "vip" in this country and let them be responsible for their own actions... thats how politicians will come to senses and actually start working for the nations as opposed to working for themselves... Please do not relate this to Mr Kalaam as he is a different kind of guy and I have all the respect for him.

Mrs. Clinton cannot be frisked as she holds a government office and thus enjoys diplomatic immunity. No Indian minister, or for that matter any high ranking diplomat of any country with whom USA has diplomatic relations, can be frisked in a similar fashion.

But Dr. Kalam is now retired and hence does not enjoy diplomatic status anymore.

Now, Mr. Clinton can be frisked.
