Default AASU flays Centre’s stand on Stilwell Road

Aug 7 – The statement of the Union Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur ruling out the possibility of re-opening the Stilwel Road to connect the NE region with China and Myanmar by road, has been received here with much resentment.

The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) in a statement here this evening said that the remark of the Union Minister reflected the injustice done by the Centre towards the State.

The members of the students’ body also burnt the effigy of the External Affairs Ministry at various places of Tinsukia district in protest against the statement of the Minister.

The AASU in its statement has said that though the Union Government has been projecting on its Look East Policy, in fact it is preventing the people of the State to look towards the east.

The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yub-Chattra Parishad (AJYCP) has also condemned the statement of the Union Minister on the issue and demanded speedy steps to re-open the historic road for the economic development of the NE region.

The statement of the Union Minister has again proved the hollowness of the much trumpeted Look East Policy of the Union Government. The policy is only a trick to befool the people of the NE region, said the AJYCP in a statement.

It needs mention here that the Union Minister Kaur had made the above statement in reply to a question of Rajya Sabha member from Assam Birendra Prasad Baishya.

Tell me one student union in india which is not backed by political parties. and the current issue is about the trade route to india and myanmar through assam and arunachal. india govt quotes this on every speech thats what we have done but that trade route is not gonna aide on assam's or north easts economic development while many issues are neglected by india govt.

    Just once issue.
You have repeatedly used the words "India Govt" like its a Govt. of an external country. The normal term used in Media and by the most people is "Central Govt." or GOI.

    Very good point PB.

@PB Only kashmiri and other separatists use that word. Why can't people say central govt? By not using it what are you trying to prove?

Yes I also agree with prouser NE has been neglected but separation is not the solution I think we all Indian have to think how to develop such area but problem is India has already divided by such both Govt. system (state & Central) and all state Govt. always try to develop their own state and in this process sometimes one unhealthy competition become start and the small and backward state sometimes did not able to run in this race so obviously they become non-developed state day by day.

Well giving us derogatory slang name as chinks isnt india making us feel different. agreed most of us are mongols by origin but well so called aryans are also migrates. now we do understand separation is not the solution but is indian govt understanding it. i remember one delhiite asking me where is assam? is it in darjeeling? i was like common and here itself after i put a nice travel detail for tawang some1 asked me where is tawang when on details i have mentioned its in arunachal. the day is not far when everyone will ask for separation form the country. we are not just the border of india we are india but people outside north east never wants to consider that fact. when people suffer from flood in mumbai for just 2-3 days its everywhere but nobody notice the fact that everyyear in assam brahmaputra creates havoc. people say terrorist activities make them think twice before visiting north east but how are all those people alive there all should be dead by now. terrorism is everywhere. people aren't safe in delhi or mumbai or bangalore. its completely a wrong notion that anyone comes and kills u. talking about law and order every state has some security measure other than that u are never questioned. in most of the states in NE u need an innerline pass to visit or to cross the assam arunachal border but u do need visa to travel abroad so if they are taking some security measure to protect the state there isnt anything wrong in it. till now arunachalis think that we are indians but that day is not far when every arunachali will say let us go and be a part of china or myanmar.

If an educated person like you thinks this way than I fear for this country's integrity.

Its always this government thing bad...that government thing bad, why is it that we always blame the government when things go wrong?

amal staying in guhrat or maharashtra not facing what a north eastern face u wont understand. education has nothing to do with fighting for survival. even at ur own home out of all children if u are the neglected one u will definitely walk out of that home. talking about national integrity i have already mentioned till now arunachalis think to be indian even if they are laughed at as chinks but if its the way rest of the india reacts questioning our problems to be nothing then definitely no arunachali will love to a part of india.

I don't find anything wrong in pri_dm's post. the fault does not
lie in the people who are oppressed and neglected and sidelined.
If you want integrity treat everyone fairly and equally and don't
give preferential treatment to one area or one culture or one religion
    or one language.

You can't blame the government for all your failures. Do you think Gujarat became a developed state because of the government in sitting in Delhi or Gandhinagar?

No its the people themselves who work their asses off to make their lives better.

Tell me what have the people done for themselves...just by waving a patriotic flag does not make you an Indian citizen, you have to earn it.

I have very strong opinions about this matter. If you feel offended I am sorry.

It is very offensive that you are implying that the NE people
are not working their asses off for making themselves better.

But they keep blaming the central government for everything and always talk about seceding from the republic whenever things go a wee bit wrong.

Yes scenario of NE is totally different as I feel although I have visited only 3 state but I know because few relative and friends are present in Assam and it is really fact Amal non-development is one of the biggest reason of revolution but I think they can protest for that in high tone they have to fight for their own right.another thing is true we never count even eight NE states. Some people really not aware about north-east India it's a practical story I live in Kolkata some kind of touch is present with few NE sates living people some people ask them 'are you from Nepal or China ?' it's really shamefully story we should have to change this thing and all we have to help such states for to come and join in development process with all other states.

Amal as i said if u have not faced shouldn't just blame people. Appreciate the fact that facing all the hurdles still arunachal considers itself india whereas nagaland mizoram manipur openly says we are not india anymore. there are places where there is no road connectivity do u think if govt doesnt look at this issues people can make road themselves? do u think having hidro power which can fill up the requirement of almost whole north still still not having a good hydro project is arunachali people's fault when arunachal legislature has always put this on paper to work out some way on road connectivities and hydro power? do u think armymen raping north east girls and hurting innocent people instead of terrorists is people's fault? i have seen all these and personally i fear army i hate to go near an armymen. do u think china saying arunachal govt official doesnt require a visa to visit us is local people's fault? do u think after all these if we still want to be recognised as indians govt should notice us. an uneducated person doesnt forsee these things but i do and all educated north eastrn does. wont let anyone take us for granted.

Pri I can say only one thing just don't think North east sates peoples are alone. If Indian north east part is neglected that mean India is neglected and if India if neglected by govt or people then we all sad. Please count all of us in your "we".
We can say India as developed country only when Manipur will be developed, when Gujarat will be developed, when Tamilnadu will be developed or when Punjab will be developed if any of the states gets neglected then we all Indian will feel bad.

I only partly blame the centre. They are not faultless...but people of India...not just NE have to stop blaming the governments when things go wrong. By blaming them we are only trying to find scape goats when in some cases it is our own fault too.

Take the recent hooch tragedy in my city for example: When people started dying they immediately blamed Modi and the state government for not doing this and not doing that. True the situation could have been avoided if the police had stopped the trade of illicit liquor. But isn't it people's responsibility not to drink in a prohibited state. First we don't obey the law, secondly when things go wrong...we always blame the govt.

After all the government is chosen by us. It is a reflection of what our society is, Whether we like it or not.
