Thumbs down Shah Rukh Khan Hasseled at US Airport

First it was x-Prez Dr Abdul Kalam , now its SRK ...ironically this incident happens right after srk's movie about racial profiling of Muslims in the West (My Name is Khan)...lol

Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan on Saturday said that he was "angry and humiliated" for being detained at the Newark International Airport in New Jersey, and asserted that the incident was "absolutely uncalled for".

"It was absolutely uncalled for I think, me having just finished working there for more than a month, just a couple of weeks ago. They said I have a common name which is causing the delay, checked my bags...I felt angry and humiliated," Shahrukh Khan said in a statement.

Khan further said the US authorities checked all his baggage, including the hand baggage, and did not allow him to make a phone call for nearly an hour.

"Only these guys just would not let me through. Finally, they allowed me to make a call, which I did and the Indian Consulate helped me through," Khan said.

Khan said that he told the authorities of him being a movie star and the reason for visiting the country. But, nothing seemed to convince the immigration officer, who did not listen to him at all.

"I was really hassled at the American Airport because of my name being Khan. The couple of hours of interrogation wanting to know if I know anyone in America, while all around people were vouching for me from India and Pakistan," Khan added.

Khan, who was in US to attend the Independence Day function, was subjected to two-hour-long ordeal at the airport. He was released after Congress MP Rajiv Shukla spoke to the authorities in the US and the Indian consulate. (ANI)
    -yahoo news (India)
strangely enough the US Yahoo site is giving a different version of the story..

We often face these issues. The people at immigration get a kick out of mishandling/misapropriating celebrities at the excuse of security. We could retaliate in similar ways but that will be dragging ourselves to their level. But some protest must be made.

If Dr APJ Abdul Kalam can be harassed by a Foreign Airline staff in India itself, there is nothing strange with this happening with SRK.

I feel its not just celebrities but South Asians in general and muslims in particular

Have you faced any such issues on your recent visits there ?

    Twice.

Once I was detained at LA airport and I missed my connecting flight. They asked me why I had come, how long I would stay, etc. and made me go to a special window/room where I found that my fellow accompanists were people with criminal records. But at the counter, the lady appeared extremely surprised at me being sent there and asked me why I was there. I told her that I am surprised myself. Then she asked a couple of general questions (about final destination, having money, etc.) and without much ado cleared me. The interview barely lasted 2 minutes but the wait was 4 hours that made me miss my flight.

Second time they frisked my luggage at Indianapolis because they saw cannisters inside the checked in bag (these were Gillette Shaving Gels). They left me later (fuming).

But apart from that removing shoes, belts, coins, etc. is the normal thing. Once I was frisked also.

Yes they are always doing this after 9/11 but this is not the way to suspect all south Asian.I think we all have to do some kind of protest for this type of incident.

    sorry j4k...
    that was rude.

but i have some suggestions to make.

    1. if Shahrukh khan can write on a 10 Rs. stamp paper that he wont go US again for any of his shows, he can surely bash US for the 2 hour thingy (that was for Shahrukh, and not for you. )
    2. It was bad that you were held just for carrying only Gillette Shave jels(in back its written inflammabious)
    3. One should have a close look on the Movie Final Destination, cause they may ask any question concerning it.
    4. They are rude...so be calm with them, or you may end up in a rectangular glass room, from where only they can see you but you wont be able to take a glance of them...

    now i get serious.

i feel, Indians go there, so they do these rude things. and after the 911 they became more agressive towards the Indians.(basically South Asians)
as security officers are everywhere the same.

now take a look on what happened to me on my way to Boston for cancer operation.(thats in Delhi )
security officer comes to me(i was with my elder bro)
knocks me if i was SC (my full name )
i said yes, he tells to get up as if was going to beat me right up there...

i even didnt asked anything cause i was very weak by then and couldnt try a Taekwondo kick on his knee.

i was taken aside.(cause no room was available and he asked me in public, as if i was a thief)

whats your name(arrey you asked me already)
what your father does(then he became normal)
what do you do?(he became again)
who is this(thats my bro man)
    what he does?(he works)
    where(banglore)
what is he doing here(he will go with me, you suck)
whats your motto to go US(cancer operatsia)
    which part(kidney)
    what(kidneyyyyy)

his small bouque of questions lasted about 1 hour 15 minutes. and there were two other cops(without uniform caps)
then he said Ok Go like if he was the person arranging the flight, visa, operation papers for me...

still now that stinky business makes my belly gas chambers burn, my bones get tight to kick someone...

but atlast i think that man was doing his duty and i shouldnt think like that...

so in a way, if an american does(as they are more cautious than Indian ones) i have no feeling for it... :hammer:

Even though I am not a big fan of profiling, we have to understand
that national security comes above all. And there are some benefits
of profiling when there are terrorists wowing your destruction.

Sharukh Khan was not singled out because he was a south asian.
He was singled out probably because of his name or because
    of a random search.

He doesn't deserve any special consideration just because he is
a movie star. The officials probably never heard of him there.
It's not like he is Gandhiji or something

He can protest the profiling based on his name, but to him complaining
that a star is treated this way is naive. Who the hell cares who
Sharuk Khan is. Everyone is equal and will be searched.

I had an experience both at Rome airport where I had machine
guns pointed at me and at US where I was questioned for two hours
but that was during the gulf war and I totally understand and
cooperated. I did not raise a big stink about how I was a big shot
in my village and my ancestors were kings etc.

Sharukh Khan needs to let go of his ego, he sucks anyway ;-)

    -PF

p.s just read the Yahoo story and it seems reasonable.
Indians are very good at knee-jerk reactions. Not to
mention a distinct flair for flouting rules and demanding
    preferential treatmend

According to US asians are terrorists when infact they are major sinners. Remember Nagasaki. We are peaceful. There have been many groups of west which were terrorists. It is racism under a new name.

it's because the terrorists who bombed the WTC were not
    blonde and blue eyed.

It is unfortunate, but you have to do it to prevent future terrorist
    attacks.

and you can hardly call the Japanese peaceful, remember they
    attacked Pearl Harbor first.
