Palm Veins are now the newest way to identification. Japan is already using this technology in automated teller machines. The major advantage of this technology is that the conventional way of identification by finger print is not so secured as stealing of fingerprints is quiet possible. But the palm vein information physically resides inside the patient which would be harder to steal. It would also help in thwarting proxy test taking. it works like this, a person would hold hand, palm down, over a computer mouse-sized sensor for a few seconds without touching anything. Near IR light is flashed, most of the light bounces back and shows up as white on the scan and the light absorbed the veins as dark lines.
