National security adviser (NSA) is all set to become the Governer of West Bengal. Recently there are many vacancies as state governers. PM want them filled before the budget. M K Narayan from Kerala is a known source for external affairs and security. He has successfully performed as PM security adviser during the anti LTTE campign of Srilanka. Centre want a strong person as Governor in West Bengal and Andra Pradesh to deal with the local issues and maintain its edge over opposition. After Narayanan's promotion, former foreign secretary Shivsanker Menon or Shyam Saran will succeed as National Security Adviser. The post was first created during A B Vajpayee term and Brijesh Mishra was the first person to assume the office.
