Thread: Why twitter is popular among Indians

Twitter is a rapidly growing networking sites especially among Indians who are now the 3rd largest twitter users.
So made twitter click among Indians?
- Instant news and concerns during Mumbai 26/11 saw live tweets from mubaites and increase in twitter users from India
- Easy to join you just need an email account
- Load really fast on mobile gprs with low speeds too since it is mosly a text based site

- Indians obsession with celebrities. The idea of being live in conversation with celebrities is a hit.
- No confirm friend request business here.You can follow SRK even if SRK doesn’t follow you .
- People wanted a different and a better shift from orkut
- Cricket and bollywood combined at one networking platform

Twitter could get handful of users for tweets but being mostly in text it is less involving like an entire social site like orkut and facebook however, its success is defined by the number of active users.

active users yes and there are plenty of them

Its not that popular as it is in west. Twitter is a good business site.

twitter not that popular in common man in india.
in india collage students and not teche user dont use twitter.
even many are not aware of it. Amony my friend circle only 5 percent of ppl are having twitter account and only less than few are active users on it.
although i can bet that all of then have orkut and/or facebook account and are active user there.

twitter in india is used by i think celebrities and techies.. software professionals and related have twitter account..

agree twitter isnt popular in india
But twitter has definitely made a mark in india

twitter will not become that popular here until 3G mobile services start operating
