    Default Shoemaker's son IIT cracker.

Well said that "There is no shortcut to hardwork.."

Abhishek Kumar Bharti, son of a poor shoemaker from Kanpur, whose family lives in a 10x10 house has cracked the entrance examination of the most premier institute of the country IIT..

He has got an AIR of 154 in the nation's top engineering institute under the S.C category.

Abishek who got 78% marks in the U.P board studied in complete scarcities of common commodities like Electricty as their home doesn't have electricity connection. So he studied under the oil-lamp.

Abishek's father is the lone earner of the family who works day and night to earn for the family, sometimes even Abhishek had to do the shoe making job of his father in his absence.

Abhishek's mother Sangita devi is happy that the God has finally heard her son's prayer to make his way into the IIT.

Abhishek's tutor Mr. Mahesh Singh Chauhan is the most happy person. He taught Abhishek for free as he couldn't pay. He is now the most satisfied teacher in the world.

so its just me who fails to get any kind of inspiration from success stories ?

Have a look at it from my point, everyone is different, some are good at things others are not, these stories are told by parents to their kinds...."look at this kid and blah blah.." now parents start thinking far ....their kid should do the same....my parents still do it to me very often...not a good feeling, all my confidance goes down and makes me thing "damn, am i so bad ?"

Childern should not feel such pressure IMO, there is no shortage from the outside world already and when partents say all this, additional expectations and hopes mount even more burden on sholders.

From this story all I can be really happy for Abhishek , hardwork always pays off. Nothing else.

    ------------------------------------------

My very good friend just went to CERN last night for a 6 month internship, I was really very happy, and then i did the mistake of sharing it with my family. First thing they said " All your friends will go ahead in life, and you will be stuck in the back like a loser"
how do you expect me to react to that ? inspired ? no !

    ^^ hmmm...

i was also praising that kid and not telling everyone to follow him...
we all do hardwork but sometimes we failed. and for this very guy, he seems to be in more unpleasant situation than we are in,... just dont forget that before he cracked the IIT he was a son of a poor and everybody knew him by that name and not an IIT topper..

I am taking this story as a very positive one, cause i myself had been in troubles and believe me, if you have the will you can surely do...

btw i am afraid of my upcoming results too

Ever heard of Super 30? It's a unique concept of a mathematician who couldn't study in Cambridge university because of poverty. He has done some great work for underprivileged. Read it on...

Well I myself have selected IIT for future studies :P
Im Happy for abhishek but read this following post

    btw , Quotas arent good!
Suppose a more intelligent and even poorer boy who did not have a reservation may not have gotten into a better IIT due to this guy's reservation

So the less intellectual guys dont get what they deserve

But,This is INDIA and these things cant change

i am against misuse of our quota system..
such intelligent guys(even from the harijan samaj) are also digraced by the quota system, because if they can come up with good rank, even than they are fixed in the sc rankings...

but whatsoever, this system is helping them. there are many guys who cannot come up because their basics are not well made as them come from downtrodden society, .. such system can really get us the marvels of intelligence..

    @mickey
    1.
Not clear whether the Rank 154 is from the Open Ranking , or
    exclusive list for SC/ST.
Rankers upto 100 in ALL INDIA common list are given their Choice of I.I.T and usually Computer Science etc.
Even now the reserved seats for SC/ST are not filled fully, and left vacant.
    2.
Shri A.K.Bharati will get all assistance to get IIT graduation only under the SC/ST quota. Reduced fees/ unlimited access to books in library etc. Not sure about hostel fees .
Now for OBC also there is a quota.
    3.
In Tamil Nadu, OBC SC/ST candidates who score top cut off marks are considered against OPEN QUOTA, in addtion to usual % reservation.. ( total reserved 69%+open quota seats)
Maximum 2000 or 3000 seats are available in all the IITs now.
for different subjects like CS mech eng electrical etc)

    4.
The real test will be in Campus Interview, and how the student
impresses the PRIVATE sector companies like Infosys/WIPRO/Tata etc. Reserved opportunities in GOVT/PSUs shrinking due to various factors.
    5.
. For P/G studies abroad usually with aid ( specially U.S)
ONLY MERIT counts. GRE/GMAT TOEFEL marks etc., and last but not least, Professors recommendations.
    4.
In Tamil Nadu, EACH year more than one LAKH students study/graduate in engineering subjects ,

India must be the only country in the world, where people fight to be called backwards.

India is the only democracy where people do not cast votes, they vote castes!

When i got admission in CMC Ludhiana the cutoff for general(open) quota was 136/160. (I scored 138 ). The cutoff for reserve quota was 64 !!!! ITS NOT FAIR. Now im trying for PG(MD/MS). Sometimes i wish i wish i belonged to the priveleged (reserve) catogory.
What are enterance tests for ? What sort of doctors will you get if ppl with 1/2 the scores of open category are becoming doctors ? Quacks & Munnabhais.
Have reservation BUT use income criteria. The child of a poor brahmin/farmer with 135 score cannot become a doc but a sc/st/obc IAS officer's child with 64 score becomes a doc to play with ppl's lives. MERA BHARAT MAHAAN.

This may be offtopic but Super 30 is not that super after all. The names of the 30 students is never revealed in advance. The names are revealed after the results are declared !!!!!
Let the super30 guys reveal the 30 names in advance and i will believe the hype.

ill tell you something unfair, when i passed my 12th and gave entrance exams, in AIEEE, a All india rank of 20k odd could not get me admission in NIT surathkal, whereas a person with an All india rank of 3 lack odd got a seat in EE in NIT surathkal because he belongs to SC/ST. There are so many I know who have got into good colleges like IIT due to SC/ST and the sad part is they were filthy rich and did not deserve it.

Your story is just my elder brother. He got a rank of 17k whereas his bhutia friend(st) got admission in same suratkal. My brother got admission in private college in uptech, whereas he is nw in kolkata persuing mba. He was brilliant too,but always lesser than my brother.

And yes i should mention something more his father was cmo of the district and mother proffessor.

And the quality of Engineers or Doctors from reserved castes is bad compared to those from the Open, So INDIA suffers in organisations like ISRO or DRDO

^^ I couldnt fully agree on this.. Many sc/st students get higher ranks and are good workers.

We have a surgeon in Nainital who is from sc but he is a renowned one.
