Default India to buy 126 Rafale fighter jets from France

I dont know how many of you take interest in the defence capabilities of India and the new developments in that area but I like to keep myself updated but it never occured to me that there could be members on our forum that might be interested in a discussion on such topics.

As most of you may already know that India is likely to buy 126 French Fighter jets called Rafale. I have been a big fan of Rafale and was extremely happy to hear the governments decision that it choose Rafale over Euro fighter Typhoon Americans were not really in the race from the very begening given the track record they have had with the stupid sanctions they have put us under for decades and their alliances are not very reliable either with those they do have them and given our experience with Mirage and some infrastructure that we already have The Rafale is a very good choice and the price was the icing on the cake

I am surprised at the wisdom shown by the establishment on this decision. Well done old farts sitting in the parliament. Apparently this deal comes with a full technology transfer

Congratulations every one : Sarkozy is going to french kiss MMS when he meets him next They need the so badly.

yes.. India needs more fighter jets:O

ab to Bajaj ne bhi scooter banana band kar diya bhai!!!

this is all happening because Russia is doing a kind of cold war against India(though on word they are India's best friends) but because of India's vote against Iran

Russian economy is based on cash import. till 2000s they did everything as India told them(share technology and all) but now India made some own stuff which Russia is jealous and also afraid. so it gave stuff to china, which India gave this stuff to Russia :P

126 Rafale fighter jets is no small deal. All the countries selling fighter jets were trying to sell their stuff to India and that included Russia as well.
There were reasons for USSR-India close relations in the cold war era since our independence but I would rather not say those thing in public Some people got really did screw my country in every which way they could.

This is one deal which has been very transparent although there must have been some under the table negotiations with the French government but thats all part of the game and is all in India's favor from what I know out of these 126 Fighter jets only 18 will be brought in fully built and ready to fly rest 108 will be built by HAL as there will be full technology transfer which is guranteed by the French government.

For those who don't know its not written in stone yet as its not a deal until Government of India physically signs it and this is not going to happen in this financial year but hopefully we would get this done as soon as possible.

I am 90% positive that this deal will go through but the government needs to hurry up because Rafale at this price is a steal and once the Euro zone problems go away this fighter jet's price will rise like anything.. Rafale project was going to be scraped if they didint make any international sales hence the lower price although its not a lot lower then what the Euro fighter was being pitched at but still its a lot better plane then the EFT in a lot of ways and best suited for our needs.

India’s air force, with around 700 fighter aircraft before the Rafale deal, is the world’s fourth largest, after the United States, Russia and China.

18 fighter aircraft (Rafale) will be delivered in “fly away” condition within 36 months and the remaining 108 are to be built by state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd.

Oh well just too bad then . I think the British should be grateful that we don't nuke them after the 200 years occupation we went through on their hands.
I hate the new British government to the core... They are not just bad for India but they are going to screw their own country as well. What they are doing these days does not make any economic sense atall ( No I don't have a Phd in Economics) They are just after the votes and nothing else... I wonder how the electorate of such a developed country be so stupid. Tony was bad but this new guy would make it to the top of the morons list if there was one.
Talk about gratefulness.. Britishers should peek into their own souls first. The British should be grateful that we let them outsource their call centres here.. If it wasent for outsourcing their middle class would struggle to buy food. You killed the industry we had 200 years ago and we will screw yours now... deal with it And be grateful that we are doing it slowely so it doesnt hurt too much in places I cant name here ha ha ha

In December 2007, Saif al-Islam Gaddafi openly declared the Libyan interest in the Rafale. Greece has also expressed an interest in the French fighter, possibly in exchange for its fleet of Mirages. Libya did not order any Rafales; ironically, less than three years later, during the 2011 Libyan civil war, French Rafales were dispatched over Libya as a part of the military intervention.

The deal should come as a boost to the French economy - what with the Euro in crisis and all that.

I'm French, and I'm very happy to such such a deal and cooperation between India and France!
From what we read in the news here, maybe a second deal of 74 Rafales will follow.
