Thread: Jaya Bachchan's insensitive remark

Folks, you must have watched this on TV. Yet another flare up between Maharashtrians and UP'ites. The reason for the latest controversy is Jaya Bachchan's insensitive remark.

In a public function she first said that she will speak in Hindi only. To this, Priyanka Chopra also joined in and said that she will also speak in Hindi as she is cannot speak Marathi.

This was the first salvo. No such preamble was required.

Then Jaya Bachchan added:

Maaf kijiye. Hum UP waale hein. Hum vahin ki bhasha jaante hein.

... and then she laughed in a rather demeaning manner.

Naturally, Raj Thakrey was up to himself again. But this time, I think he is justified in his anger.

- JB had no reason to flare up burning sentiments
- The remark was very insensitive
- Not only it was politically uncorrect, it was totally uncalled for.
- the way it was said and followed by the cackle it was very insulting to the local public.

Raj Thakrey later said

Guddi ab buddhi ho gayi hai lekin abhi tak usme akal nahi aayee hai.

well....its all abt god damn politics.......i am not on either side (Raj or Bacchan).......both of them are selfish......& yeh STUPID too....politics is dirty game....m talking abt the current politics......for his Party(MNS), Raj Thakare started insisting this non-marathi (infact Raj is true.....to some extent......but i've no hard feeling foranyone).....but this is not how he supposed to do that....i mean why hes bashing the typical loser middle class (workers/taxies etc) ppl.....aint there more so called non marathi ppl out in mumbai?

& man Jaya Bacchan......she is classic example of "how a glamorous person can be idiot".....how she just realised after so much years (30 roughly)..that she can't speak Marathi & shes from UP......& her smile.....thats f**king retarded......

BTW i never watch hindi movies......except some quality ones.....so ban the movies or play.......it doesn't matter to me.......jus kidding

I do not like what Bal Thakrey does many times but this time both the Thakreys (him and Raj) are right.

Now Jaya Bachchan has apologised. But Jaya Bachchan is not a novice in PR. She has been an MP for crying out loud and she should not hurt people's sentiments this way to score off a politician.

Also these media try to make this a big issue. Trying to analyze these statements from all angles which was even more funny

How is that? Just by making the remark she has already done huge campaign
for two movies which star AB Senior & Junior, respectively. Not just that,
She has also given an opportunity to Thackeray's to warm up the entire issue
and get "MORE" publicity and their presence felt. (Elections are not very far )
I wouldn't be surprised if all of them collectively be having a heartiest laugh
on us - the so called 'Aam Aadmi'

PS: By no means I am in support of what Mrs. Bachchan or Mr. Thackeray said.

on one hand they are makin it too much of a family affair by targetin the Entire Bacchan clan..
now Amitabh needs extra security for this and the premier of his movie 'last rear' has been cancelled..

Just out of interest... Does Jaya speak Marathi atall? where is she orignally from ... I know Amitabh is from UP some where ... Is she from UP aswell... I always thought she was a Bengali or something ..


Why is language suddely of such great importance?


Why not make it mandatory to speak in Marathi in all call centres at Mumbai and Pune and all other places? why let them speak in English?

How about baning English and Hindi from schools and also all higher education in Marathi?

i agree with admin... so much big issue was not at all matter...

1st thing is wether in lightn moments or circastically jaya must not have had old such statements.. she is well knowned personality,, it cam make difference that she knows.. still she commented...

2nd... raj bahi to poore ke poore toot pade us par.. lol...it was not such topic for over reacting of it..

Everytime when it comes to politicians talks or even politics talks, people become more sensitive on it and people itself put another meaning in every articles or talks they made. It's so funny though.

Issues like these are best ignored ......once they see that nobody gives a damn, they ll stop acting up .....both the news channels and politicians i mean....

Admin and others, the issue is not about speaking in Hindi or Marathi or Tamil. No one (at least no sensible person) expects a person from another state to speak in the local language and that too in a public function. And I go one step further and say that as Hindi is our national language, everyone must make an effort to learn, understand and speak it (if not write it).

The issue was never about speaking in Hindi at all (at least to me).

The issue is the needless comment and stating that "We are from UP" and then the mirthy laugh/cackle. That was totally uncalled for. I saw exactly as was said on stage, the manner of speaking and demeanour. I filtered out the bias of the news channels - pro JB or anti JB. After that I posted this thread.

Bachchan's have got to do it.... or someone else does it. The newly wed couple is too young to be in controversy so the seniors do it... and truely the senior has more movies coming in !!

Does anyone have a recording of the Jaya stage remark thing? coz the only thing these chanels show is that one line and nothing before or after so it is very hard to put it in perspective and to see th motive of the statement...
