Rep Power: 10 | Warning: Someone is phishing on Twitter If you get a Twitter direct message today reading: “check out this funny blog about you”, advise you don’t. The link leads to a fake Twitter login page that attempts to steal your Twitter login. Particularly susceptible to this attack are Twitter users who get their DMs delivered by email: it’s perfectly natural to be prompted to log in after clicking through from your email account. It’s a phishing scam that will send you to a fake Twitter login page (that looks real) to attempt to steal your password, and then apparently use it to send this fake site to all of your followers. You can follow updates on the attack by subscribing to the Twitter topic #phishingalert ************************************************** ******** ![]() Again, don’t click on that link, or at least don’t give it your password. |

Rep Power: 10 | Obama’s Twitter account hacked The latest version of the Twitter attack targets numerous celebrities, including President-elect Barack Obama, Britney Spears, and CNN anchor Rick Sanchez, among others, who have claimed to have fallen for the scam. Like traditional phishing attacks on other social networking sites, the Twitter messages seem to come from someone that the victim knows. The attackers send what appear to be personalized "tweets" containing a link to a Web site impersonating the Twitter login site. In fact, the link leads users to a fake login page designed to trick them into handing over their usernames and passwords. Twitter said that the phishing attack domain appears to originate from China. The news was initially broken Jan. 3 by blogger Chris Pirillo after he received one of the phony Twitter messages used in the attack. Since then, Twitter posted a security advisory on its site warning users of the scam. |
