One of the country's fastest supercomputer, Param Sheersh, was inaugurated on Monday at the North Eastern Hill University in Shillong.
Param Sheersh is a supercomputing facility created by Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) at NEHU.
It is funded by the Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India under the North East Sector Projects.
The facility aims at aiding research in strategic areas of weather, seismology, bio-informatics, physics, computational fluid dynamics, material sciences and life sciences.
"The facility shall serve as a core back-bone platform for students, faculty and researchers of the region to develop competency skills for solving grand challenge problems in the above mentioned area," said C-DAC director S Ramakrishnan.
