    Lightbulb Windows 7 Editions Announced

    Today Microsoft PressPass spoke with Windows General Manager Mike Ybarra who revealed SKU strategy for Windows 7. For those of you interested, click here to read the details.



    With Windows 7 there will be two primary editions: Windows 7 Home Premium, and Windows 7 Professional.
    cool, just 2 version
    So there no more confusions on which edition to choose

    ... and ofcourse Ultimate is also there, but apparently it does'nt have so many extra features. And it seems that even vista ultimate sold oly 3-5% of the total vista sales

    I am sure that by the time the retail version is due for release, a 'Basic' version will be out. VARs, Channel Partners, Distributors play a lot of importance in the selling strategy.

    looks like its a marketing ploy my dear friends.Most probably windows 7 will have 5 if not 6 editions

    There is going to be 6 versions of windows 7. The following are the versions

    1. Windows 7 Starter (limited to three apps concurrently)
    2. Windows 7 Home Basic (for emerging markets)
    3. Windows 7 Home Premium (adds Aero, Touch, Media Center)
    4. Windows 7 Professional (Remote Desktop host, Mobility Center, Presentation mode)
    5. Windows 7 Enterprise (volume license only, boot from virtual drive, BitLocker)
    6. Windows 7 Ultimate (limited availability, includes everything)

    i m not so sure about basic cuz aero in windows 7 will run on most hardware

    BTW whats this limited availability tag associated with Win7 Ultimate ?
