Default Korea to Get 1Gbps Downloading by 2012

Well this isnt exactly news for us Indians. Because we are hearing it all the time. While we are being content with our 2 mbps lines, Korea is planning to switch to 1 Gbps by 2012. The current broadband speeds in Korea are of the order of 50-100 mbps. The only gripe in the situation is that only a few select urban areas will get to taste the 1 Gbps initially.

To get an idea what 1 Gbps means, we can download a 120 minute film in just 12 seconds.

Not really mate, If you look at it, we have progressed pretty well, slowly yes, but we have definitely progressed in the last couple of years.

Maybe the govt need to loosen its control or infrastructure needs to be upgraded and again the ball is in the Govt. And who votes the Govt, its US, and now the ball is in or court

True indeed. There was a time when i used to pay 900/- for 64kbps UL from Asianet. Gone are those days since BSNL started 256kbps (now 2048kbps) for 500/-.

Definitely my friend. Like i said in another thread, [b]Patience is Virtue[b]

Certain stuff takes a lot of time, if we need to upgrade our lines I am guessing we need to move better fibre cables (I am not sure of the term) and that means considerable investment and time would have go into it. The govt. cannot do it alone (not that it isn't capable of it). The private players might also need to chip with the Tech Know how and then people we will get speeds faster than the ones in US or any country.

Even at such speed the ISP's don't charge for Upload/Download. A fixed monthly amount is charged instead. NTT(Japanese ISP) provides 100 Mbps on Fiber Optic cables, charges for first 1 year is only RS. 550 (approx) per month (No usage limit)!!. Then from second year Rs. 3,500 (approx). Unlike TATA's 100 Mbps broadband Charges Rs. 10,000+ monthly! and usage limit is 30 GB! what the hell??
