Seagate launches 750 GB 7,200-rpm Barracuda hard drive

The market leaders in the storage market Seagate have raised the bar once again by launching a monster of a drive. The latest product from the company is the new 7,200-rpm Barracuda model with a storage capacity of 750 GB of space.
Seagate is using the cutting-edge technology called “perpendicular recording” in this hard drive to enhance the storage capacity of the drive without increasing the size of the disks. This technology itself is capable of a five-fold increase in storage capacity over earlier magnetic-recording techniques.
Seagate spokesperson Michael Hall said in a statement on this new product launch: “This is the first major upgrade for recording data on disk drives since the first drive was created by IBM 50 years ago.”
He added: “The problem is that each bit is magnetized, and, as they get smaller, they lose their magnetic power and become unstable, causing a potential loss of data.”
