The fiber-optic systems are a boom in the high-bandwidth applications but there are a certain disadvantages to them too. Like the optical fiber has not been very fast in achieving the goal of fiber to the premises. One can also notice that they have a last mile problem. But when the demand for bandwidth increases one can witness huge progress towards hitting the goal. Today fiber-optic systems are replacing the wire-based DSL. This was the earlier source of the broadband Internet. In many countries one will see a service which is called Fiber To The Home service providing hundred percent fiber-optic connections to the home of the subscriber.
