    Default URL shortener From Google and Facebook

    Waiting for something new in the internet section, well its here. And its the URL shortening technique which gives a very short URL and that's something which is in addition of the original URL address. Shortening of URL's using the most less space for the address making it the shortest as possible which is the same for email addresses.

    So far its been Google and Facebook who have their own short URL. Face have their short URL of fb.me and Google has their short URL of goo.gl

    The benefits of URL shortener from Google as their toolbar and feedburner are as follows:

    Stability - gives good uptime and service which is very reliable
    Security - because of the shortened URLs sites are automatically detected that maybe malicious
    Speed - improvement of speed which is what users want

    The URL shortening is only available for Google Toolbar and Feedburner, but there are chances that Google may make this available to a wider audience in the future.

    I think the point of URL shortening is to have shortest possible URLs and I think Goo.gl is itself too long to have a short url. I use 3.ly,u.nu,z.pe,etc.

    @preeti
    it means if you use z.pe and your link is... rahul941400(dot)freehostia(dot)com it will bcome z(dot)pe/Jmb
    and preeti url shortenerz are around the web since a very long time. famous one's being the tinyurl.com. 'if' we are not misunderstanding you, that is. I mean, maybe you meant something else wen u said url shortener. btw the Google URL Shortener is currently available for Google products and not for broader consumer use.

    @vaishaliv
    take for example the link of this particular thread of this forum... the link that you see in the address bar of ur browser ^^^

    now you will go to www(dot)z(dot)pe and paste the above URL in the field "create new short url" u'll see that ur link shrinks to smething like z(dot)pe/tmpk and now wenever you want to link your friends to this topic.. all u need to do is use the short link instead of the bigger one. actually wat happens is... this z dot pe website has a script... which redirects the short urls to the original urlz. u'll see wat i mean wen u try it
