Rep Power: 3  |  Skype launches mobile VoIP service in collaboration with 3 eBay owned Skype has launched its first mobile voice-over-IP service. They have collaborated with mobile service provider 3 group to launch this service. 3 Group customers would soon be able to make free Skype calls to other 3 Group Skype users and to PC-based Skype users around the world. However, they would be required to sign up for one of 3 Group’s new monthly data plans to use the service. 3 Group has said that their packages would include unlimited usage, subject to fair-use limitations. This new service is expected to offer economical rates for international calls to mobile users. Niklas Zennstrom, chief executive officer of Skype said in a statement on their plans: “It’s now possible for the 136 million Skype users to break from their PCs and use Skype wherever they are.” The company added that their client software for the mobile phones is similar to the regular version used on the personal computers. Skype added that their SkypeIn and SkypeOut services would be available to mobile customers next year. |
