Hutchison Whampoa has announced their plans to offer fixed-line broadband services on mobile phones. These services would include features like Web calling and home TV as they aim to attract new customers with 3G services.

The company said that its 3 UK mobile operation in Britain would offer services like unlimited Web calling, instant messaging, search and other applications on mobile handsets for a flat monthly fee.

Hutchison’s Group Finance Director Frank Sixt added in a statement: “This is about enabling people to do with a mobile handset what they would generally expect to do at home sitting in front of their PC at home or their TV.”

The company would sell these services under the brand name of X-Series. In the initial stages, they would support two handsets — the Nokia N93 and the Sony Ericsson W950.

Hutchison has spent billions of dollars on building their network and has collaborated with companies like Skype, Sling Media, Yahoo, Nokia, Google, EBay, Microsoft’s MSN, Orb and Sony Ericsson to offer this new generation of mobile services.
