Default Global Automobiles aims at launching cheaper cars in India

Kolkata-based Global Automobiles has said that they are aiming to bring cheaper cars in the Indian market, which is currently dominated by Maruti Alto and Maruti 800.

The company is planning to launch products in collaboration with China government-owned automobile manufacturer Guangzhou Motors’ Company.

They aim to bring out their first product by the middle of next year.

Interestingly, the Indian auto market is already waiting for the Tata Motor’s Rs. 1 lakh car expected to come in the market in 2008. Global is considering bringing a similar small car for the nuclear Indian families.

These cars are expected to be brought in semi-knocked down condition from Guangzhou’s manufacturing facility in China during the initial stages.

Santanu Ghosh, chairman, Global Auto spoke about their plans for the Indian market: “Our car will be more affordable and will be brought out from our existing component manufacturing facility at Hoogly in West Bengal. We already have 30 acres of land and negotiations for another 70 are in progress. Our talks on this under-one lakh car is in the final round with our Chinese partner and a Singapore-based company. Some prototypes of the product will be out by July 2007.”

They are also aiming to enter the booming Indian two wheeler market by launching products in five variants - 100cc, 125cc, 150cc, 180cc and 250 cc.
