Default Symbian claims that 100 million smartphones have shipped in markets worldwide

Mobile software developers Symbian has said in a statement that they have reached the milestone of having shipped more than 100 million smartphones in the world markets.

These smartphones are all powered with their own Symbian operating system. The company is now focusing on development products for sale in the developing markets where low-end mobile phones are more popular.

The company has sold these products to more than 250 network operators worldwide since the company’s formation. Their operating system powered more than 13 million smart phones sold this quarter.

Symbian CFO Thomas Chambers however admitted that the Smartphone penetration worldwide is relatively low and still has a way to go compared with the penetration of mobile handsets. They now aim to develop product suitable for emerging mobile markets including India and China.
