Default Hewlett Packard and IBM continues to lead the server market

Research group Gartner has come out with their latest report on the server market scenario. The company confirmed that Hewlett Packard and IBM are the dominating players in this segment.

Hewlett Packard leads in terms of shipments while IBM dominates in terms of sales. Overall, the shipments climbed 9.1 percent from the same period a year ago to just more than 2 million units. Revenue has improved by 4.4 percent to $13 billion.

The demand for Blade and x86 servers is improving while shipments of RISC and Itanium UNIX servers have dropped in the recent times.

IBM posted revenues of $4.4 billion in the quarter with around 33.7 percent of the market. Hewlett Packard came second with revenues of $3.3 billion, or 25.3 percent of the market. Dell, Sun Microsystems and Fujitsu/Fujitsu Siemens followed the leaders.
