Sweden’s LM Ericsson has said in a statement that they believe watching television on mobile devices would become a mainstream phenomenon by 2008.

The company is going to work closely with Japanese tech giant Sony to develop new products and solutions for wireless television connectivity.

Per Nordlof, Ericsson’s director of Product Strategy said in a statement that they believe that one third of the world’s cellphone users will regularly be watching TV broadcasts on their handsets in two years.

Ericsson is already working with Sony on developing mobile phones under the Sony Ericsson joint venture. They are also working together to create new software to power such DLNA-based home networks.
