Britney Spears might not be topping music sales chart but she continued to be the most searched for personality on the Yahoo! Search Engine in 2006.
World Wrestling Entertainment and Shakira were the two new entrants in this list. Yahoo! said that WWE gained due to the popularity of John Cena, the wrestler who starred in a Hollywood flick named The Marine.
Shakira of course is popular for her music and dances. The other celebrities in the top ten were: Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton, “American Idol,” Beyonce Knowles, Chris Brown, Pamela Anderson and Lindsay Lohan.
If we look at the most popular news items on their service, the death of crocodile hunter Steve Irwin topped the charts. News related to Anna Nicole Smith’s son came second. Interestingly, Iraq War took the third spot.
Spiderman 3 has been the most searched for movie title this year despite the fact that it would be released in the middle of next year. Other popular movie searches were for “X-Men: The Last Stand,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest,” “Star Wars” and “Superman Returns.”
The top five popular television shows were “American Idol,” “Lost,” “Days of Our Lives,” “Family Guy” and “Deal or No Deal.”
