Default AMD launches energy efficient processors

Microprocessor Company AMD has announced that they are now launching some energy efficient processors as they aim to compete with market leaders Intel in this emerging segment.
AMD said that they have adopted new manufacturing techniques that would help them to take on Intel. Intel has been working on using the advanced chip making process for more than a year now.
To develop these energy efficient processors, AMD took their existing Athlon 64 FX for desktop computers and shrunk it. These new processors are priced from $169 to $301 depending on speed and AMD claim that they use about 30 percent less energy than the earlier versions.
Nick Kepler, AMD’s vice president of logic technology development spoke about these new products: “We are leading with energy-efficient versions and taking benefits of the technology entirely in power because that’s what our customers want — lower power. Our 65-nanometer conversion is happening at a very good time. We’ve had tremendous demand over the past year. We have gone from having a very small market share to over 20 percent market share and moving to 65 nanometer will help us support that demand.”
