Russia and USA have long been bitter rivals in their quest for the space. However, times are changing and the two countries might now talk on possible collaboration on future moon explorations.
Russia has said that they want to join NASA’s moon exploration programme with technology and knowhow.
Russian space agency representative Igor Panarin said in a statement: “We want the agreement to reflect Russia’s status as a great space power.”
NASA has already said that they aim to send a four-astronaut crew to the moon in 2020. In addition, they are also working on plans to set up an international base camp on one of the moon’s poles that would be permanently staffed by 2024.
Russia incidentally agreed to help China who are themselves aiming to land a robot probe on the moon by 2010.
