Default Skype getting acquired by Microsoft

It seems that MS is almost on the verge of acquiring Skype:

Microsoft Near Deal to Buy Skype for Nearly $8 Billion - WSJ.com

The price is appears is $8b. I am not sure whether MS can recover the amount in next ten years from a B2C company like Skype but then MS is a cash rich company and Skype may give them a leverage in areas where they need a ready made platform.

Skype is a excellent buy for Microsoft given the popularity of skype across the world but I have no idea about the valuation. I guess they must have done all the maths before getting into the deal.. Microsoft and Yahoo otherwise have normally killed the companies they have bought over the years especially Yahoo has a very bad track record of buying a healthy profit making company and then bringing it to a stand still as soon as they buy it and then stop operations a few years later.. Hope Microsoft can do some good to skype because I use it a lot and I would hate to see things changing with skype.

I don't see how Skype is a money spinner for anybody --- most of its services are provided free.

I guess it could work out for Google: analysing conversations and inserting appropriate advertising!

Well, Microsoft wants to own the world, so this reason it could be a good buy. Facebook thinks it is the world, so for that reason it could be a good buy.

It didn't take long before my skepticism about this was proved quite wrong!

Yes, MS have bought Skype. If I still used it much, that would worry me a bit.

They say they'll continue to support other platforms...

Skype was never popular as a messenger. Its USP was voice services.

"why on this earth are we too enthusiastic of skype buyers"?
i always take such news as just information and news, but no breaking news and filling up tv studios for that..

bill bought it for 8bill bucks or 8ducks, i am not getting a cent of it..

this is a way of american media of showing up the world of how there the things are sold.. how big is the american economy and all that.. mass media + sheep people..
