The Indians space agency is set to launch the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) in the second week of July.
This vehicle would put the INSAT 4C, a 2,000-kg class communications satellite, into the geosynchronous transfer orbit.
The load capacity of this spacecraft is around 2,000 kg and it is a 49-metre tall rocket weighing around 40 tonnes at lift-off.
This would also be the first GSLV mission to take off from the second launch pad at Sriharikota. The satellite being launched with this craft will be equipped with 12 high-powered Ku band transponders and will have a 10-year mission life.
T. Subba Reddy, manager of the second launch pad spoke about this mission: “Three stages of assembly are complete. The fourth stage, which is the satellite insertion, will be completed by Thursday.”
